Yes, I saw that article too. I remember a couple of televised Indy car races from there in the mid '70's that were pretty exciting.

I never went to TWS back in its hey day in the '70s. But I've been there 5 times in the '90s and '00s. Both IMSA weekends, two vintage events, and the North American introduction of the Ferrari F50.
At that last one, Michelle Alboreto kept trying to get a Ferrari F1 car (formerly raced by Nigel Mansell) up to 200 MPH on the front straight. Kept topping out at 199+. Beautiful sound echoing off the banking.

One of my favorite tracks.....old and bumpy and hard to get to, but it had character...im very sad to see it finally happen.

I actually raced there with the Super Vees about a million years ago. It was bumpy then, too. I remember Tom Bigelow running one of the Armstrong Mould Indy cars and he bumped the concrete outer wall going through 3 & 4 and it looked like a flash bulb going off because of the mag wheels hitting the wall at such high speed. Funny how certain things stick with you.
