Wow, that is shocking news. I never was much of a Nico fan but he is the WDC, fair and square. Who will Mercedes pick to partner Lewis? This puts them behind a bit in picking drivers, I would think....
Do they pick another co-#1 or pick a #2 driver like Schumi got all those years?

I did not see that one coming. Nor I. It will be interesting to see who gets the seat. Whom ever it is I'll bet he's not a co-number 1 with Lewis! Paul Erlendson

It's a surprise but it's not a surprise. On Monday he posted a photo of himself walking on a beach with his wife and child all holding hands with the caption "I guess I now have a third trophy".
I'm happy for him. He had a douchebag for a team mate for three years. I don't blame him for not wanting go put himself through another season now that he's achieved his goal.

I agree 100%, Michael. Not a Rosberg fan but having Hamilton for a team mate must really suck. The only guy who has managed to have any kind of a civil relationship with him is Button. He is never going to beat Hamilton head to head, so I guess it's understandable.

Now, that would be very interesting. That might be Hamilton's worst nightmare. Remember they were teammates at McLaren in 2007 when Hamilton was a rookie. They both finished with 109 points, 1 point behind Kimi as Kimi won the season finale to jump them both in points. Jordan

Now, that would be very interesting. That might be Hamilton's worst nightmare. Actually I think Max Verstappen would be even a worse nightmare... so naturally that's who I'm hoping gets the seat

Actually I think Verstappen would be Toto Wolff's worst nightmare. I think they will go with a contracted #2, and avoid all the crap from last year, time will tell. With the new rules, Mercedes may not be the cream of the crop, next year, but I would not bet on that.

Let's see: I think Rubens Barrichello or Eddie Irvine may be available... :-)

If they go with Alonzo, Button may have the shortest retirement in history.

I have a strong feeling Pascal Wehrlein may get the nod. I'd love to see Alonso or Verstappen in that seat, but I fear they'll want a definite number two driver.

As I said on Michaels Facebook... I think Jenson Button would be a good choice. He is available, knows the team and has been teammates with Hamilton before. He might even opt for a 1 year contract that would give Mercedes a better chance at drivers in the future.
