Michael, I came across this website while I was doing some research. I can't read it, but the guy has done some pretty impressive mods to the Alfa kit.
linkWhat? You don't speak Polish? Here's a translation, with the usual "attaboy, it looks great!" type posts deleted.

Hi
I think it's time to show my struggle on this model, because I build it myself slowly for some time now. With this model, actually it is an intermediate model F1 car Alfa Romeo 158, coming from a set of Smer.
My model will rearrange car No. 34, where in 1950, the first season of existence Formula 1 Juan Manuel Fangio won the prestigious race of the Monaco Grand Prix. Fangio became so also the first ever winner of the race in Monaco, played out in the framework of Formula 1. During the race: Victory: I poster of the race: As I said, Smer model is rather an intermediate output, to build a model for the contemporary level. But there is nothing surprising, since molds created from a woman named gentlemen of Merit, to that in the 60s. So a very long time. I put on myself to perform from scratch cockpit, complete and correct details of the body and improve the wheel. Motor did not move, because the mask will stick permanently. For starters finished presenting images of the cockpit, which already scrolled through the forum: The next step was to lay the body ended up consumption of huge amounts of putty and sandpaper. After completed the cockpit of handmade decals clocks: then I started a slow replenishment of body parts. I made ??a specific aerodynamic package (flip on the radiator grille) , missing rivets, washers under the bonnet clips, flashings hole in the mask into the exhaust manifold, missing flashings bottom. In addition wytrasowalem missing lines dividing plates, flaps for fuel and air intake and poszpachlowalem holes zestawowy windshield that execute entirely from scratch. Others I still have to make holes in the bonnet, the handles for lifting and her missing 6 gills on the hood of that. I'll have more time to do the flap on the radiator grille, but with a thinner material. Then the body is going to paint. I have a whole picture: Regards

Well, unfortunately, I had to compromise and give up making spatial blinds. I wanted to do while the grill surround, but after trying its rapid zlaszowania, whose remnants still visible, I thought it would not be necessary. Sow with black paint will make your grill will gain spaciousness and will nicely prezentowac- fortunately the grill grooves are deep enough8-)

Slowly I get down to painting the model.
The first time I used to paint the base car and I am very happy with the results. Paint after the first, medium-wet layer covered the surface quickly dried up, created a durable coating, and most importantly in general does not have orange peel. I used to paint a classic color Rosso Alfa, selected from the color catalog Alfa-Romeo.
At the beginning of the prepared hood: As for the proper caste, after application of the primer came out still a lot baboli to remove. And so again I had to employ large amounts of filler, which one can see : Besides, now at the stage of painting the bow. He already has a red base and yellow color on the door grille and the grille itself waiting for painting Metalizer and released

If I may advise you to paint in a way that let's call it "niecywilny" :)which may or may not have lead to some difficulties. First you have the picture assembled a lot of shack, I do not know if this habit (aviation, armored), accident or necessity. It is best to paint the elements oddzoelnie if it has to be clean and without baboli. Without such screening agent e.g., mounted or suspension. If the construction of the model does not allow this, I'd modified. The second thing that painting the color is not the main one mixing, not in one session at the bank will have different shades. The more that the red color is treacherous. Well, unless you anticipate some heavy dirty and everything przymaskujesz therein. Good luck!

This model differently can not do that then paste separately suspension, etc. It is a necessity and a little habit of pancerki;)

Here such modifications are feasible. It is good insofar as they have not yet installed a brake and lever mounting bracket. steering, which I will do from scratch. It just would have been a massacre:)

Right, I forgot about it, and finally pack paints civilians, it's a little different story : Mrgreen:But in this case I do not see any problem, because while painting caste, I can within the same session cirrhotic again quietly put a new thin coat of paint on the hood and beak;about)

After a long battle with the model, I managed to bring the car body to the right and I covered the whole base. Door grille painted in yellow (own interpretation of the black and white photos), and at the same dummy gave black sow. I think that as a temporary solution to the problem, the effect is satisfactory.
View the whole, complex dry: Overall, I do not know what for so long worked on the bodywork when at the disrepair originals can see gaps between the plates, uneven gaps between the hood and the side where you can put your fingers or bent blinds

Hello again recently I am working on marking model. Body enriched with starting number 34 and clovers. Numbers and white box under clover made ??from a template, and the same sheet, it has already prepared my decal. When performing a number I did not want to come out on overly beautiful, because it was applied with hand-prepared template. Besides the pictures you can see that the numbers in the issue can even vary slightly height. In addition to the bow I put on a decal with a stamp. I was left still perform front starting number.
