This is the 1969 Mallard. I made the wings for the nose, the cam bumps on the hood, and the flares at the front suspension openings. It has been primed and sanded. Next will be white primer and then cut the panel lines. The 1968 in the background is in primer and I will cut the openings tomorrow. kip

I found an article from a 1968 Autoracing Magazine covering Jim's run at Daytona. I'll see if I can figure out how to post it.

Cut in the panel lines and put the rivets on. This is the 1969 version. While not shown, I cut the panel lines on the 1968 and am ready to put the rivets on it. kip

Based on the "Role Call" thread, I think Calvin and I must be the only members not at the race. I’ve been working on my Mallards. Calvin, what are you up to? First the 1969. Does not look like much but I have finished a bunch of time consuming details. Made (vacu-formed) and added scoops to the right side. Finished tires and wheels (from HRM) and temporarily placed them just to show them off. Left side. Added 3 scoops and opened up hole for the turbocharger. Also added the little curved lip above the turbo hole. Little sanding--especially the scoops) and its off to the paint shop. Gary said the decals are on their way. The 1968. Finished the rivets and added the chin spoiler. kip

This is just getting way beyond exceptional! Based on the "Role Call" thread, I think Calvin and I must be the only members not at the race. I’ve been working on my Mallards. Calvin, what are you up to? I think so! I just watched the race, that's about it....

Both are progressing well. Very impressive progress - hard to believe this was scratchbuilt from nothing! Do you have a favorite? I kind of like the '68s bigger chin spoiler but I am hoping off on a favorite just yet Jordan

My favorite would normally be the 1968 because I like the front end better than the 1969 wings. That said, however, my favorite is actually the 1969, simply because of the big Pepsi bottle cap surrounding the nose number. (See the first post on this thread.)

You are really doing some amazing work on the mallards, super looking. For the record, I was not at the 500 either but I did watch it. I like the 60's better

Paint is on. The suspension is finished (chromed brass rods). Cockpit is done.
Roll bar is on. Fueling apparatus installed. Turbo unit installed. Everything is scratch built except: Steering wheel (from a Gurney Eagle), seat (from a Ferrari 250 GTO), seat belts, Offy turbo, wheels and tires, and dial faces, and the fuel thingy on top the rear deck. Decals are next (GWS), clear coat, then the dreaded windscreen, and some minor details. Then finish the 68. kip

Thanks for all the kind words. The 1969 has been decaled and will be finished once I get the #@%&* windshield on. The 1968 has been painted with the blue stripe down the middle. I should be posting some photos by mid-week. Thanks again.

I-am-a-ma-zed!!! Fantastic, love the idea, love the developement. Also nice debate on hair driers. It´s also ages I don't use one for anything other than modeling/bricolage purposes. Not that I don't have any hair left, but then not that much either. Me rather than borrowing, I take on the ones my wife leaves for technical reasons. Yes, a bit like second-hand Penskes of the eighties/nineties...

The 1969 is finished. Many thanks to Juanjo Mas, Walt, James Harvey, and Steve Austin for all their help, photos, and support. Many thanks also to Gary at GWS decals for the magnificent decals. If you look closely you will see that the Pepsi / Frito Lay decal on the hood has the turned gold look. Also, I love the Pepsi bottle cap on the nose. I don’t know how Gary did that one. Most everything has been scratch built. The turbo, wheels, tires, seat, seat belts, dials, steering wheel, fueling mechanism on the rear deck, rivets, and brake discs, were appropriated from other kits or were purchased. The 1968 is in paint. I am working on the cockpit now. I really like the 1969 nose decal--but I think I will end up liking the 1968 best. Thanks for looking. kip
