I normally don't do any building on weekends as that's time I spend with my fiancee but the weather prohibited that activity. Since that was the case I did some home improvement, housekeeping and finishing the 1971 Sprite Kuzma from Lance Sellers. I've been steadily building this car for about a month, doing things here and there. But thanks to the weather, I was able to do what you see here. Mel Kenyon is perhaps the greatest midget racer in all of the history of motorsport. He also ran well in sprints and on the Championship Trail. All of this is even more impressive once the fact that he did this without the fingers on his left hand. He lost them in a fiery crash at Langhorne in 1965. Undaunted he returned racing with a glove designed with the help of his father and brother that helped him compensate for the loss while driving. He had some success at Indianapolis, but not in this car. He got caught up in an early crash and almost lost his feet as Gordon Johncock tore the front of this machine off. It was a bad day for the car's owner, Lindsey Hopkins as of the three cars he entered only one made it to the finish with Roger McCluskey finishing ninth. This is a car I've wanted to build for some time and it didn't disappoint. It is a master of craftsmanship. It went together with no troubles. I added seat belts and pedals, other than that it is box stock. I painted it Testor's Green Go, I painted the wheels Testor's Jet Exhaust as the color photo I have of the car shows it a color that comes close to what I painted. All in all this was a fun build and I'm quite pleased with the result. It is a beauty and Kenyon is one of my all-time favorites. Thank you for the kind words while I was building and now thank you for looking!

Love the history lessons, I always learn something from your final writeup. Enjoyed watching this one come together and the final result just looks right. Great work, Jerry!

Thank you for all the kind words, if you have a copy of this kit in your stash build it! You'll be pleased with the ease of construction and the accuracy and beauty of the final product. It looks better built on your shelf than in a box!
I'm glad I'm accumulating some reward points Calvin! I don't even get any with my credit card.

I'm glad I'm accumulating some reward points Calvin! I don't even get any with my credit card. I favor my WIP customers with reward points....it's very complicated system that only I understand but it does work!

Being Calvin's friend is a very good thing. All you Metal-Cal, and Apache Airlines owners should know that.

I never cared for these cars, but please don't let that reflect on you choice or building skills. You've done a really great job on this one. Your choice of color for the wheels is spot on, as is the rest of the detail work. Well done.

I like this car and build so much I just feel like making another post on it....... I think it's so good you should set up a Web camera facing it on your shelf so we can log on an stare at it.

It is a nice looking car. I used a Tamiya paint on mine, which I think is a tad lighter in shade.

Thanks again for the kind words! I, like Calvin like to look at this car, it's absolutely stunning!
I also love the Ashland Oil and Valvoline decals, my fiancée's mother works for the company and she's shown me around their racing division before.
They have some very nice racing memorabilia but the centerpiece is Little Al's 1992 Indianapolis 500-winning Galmer! There are a lot of positive memories with that!
