My new 312T3 brake ducts finally prompted me to return to this project after sitting idle for several years. I am converting the Tamiya 1/20 kit to Villeneuve's Canadian GP winner. There are several modifications needed to the Tamiya kit to do this car most notably with the side pods. The Tamiya kit depicts the early season car that had a slight indent on the side pods. This was gone later in the year, and a NACA duct appeared on the left sidepod in front of the oil cooler. To do the NACA duct I am using one of the NACA ducts for the rear brake scoops which were not used in Canada. I am also removing all body work from the tub to facilitate easier painting of both. I am using a combination of refurbished and new parts on this build - I have enough parts in my part box to probably do at least two complete 312T3s, so in some cases I'm cutting up several bodies to get the best possible parts. Here is the tub/sidepod assembly originally. Here is the upper body with some mods. I will be removing the nose piece and mounting it permanently while allowing for a removable upper body. The NACA ducts at the back are what will be removed and used for the sidepod. Sidepod removed from tub More separation of body from tub Here is the NACA duct that will be grafted into the sidepod Building up the tub I cemented the bottom of the tub to the top, leaving the front unglued so I can snap the lower suspension into place after painting Back to the sidepod. Note, the NACA duct was only on the left side Tub painted, lower suspension in place, and side pods assembled and filled in

Part 2 I am now taking orders. You can order just the brake scoops, just the air intakes, or both. If you are outside the US you will need to contact me for a quote and I will send you an invoice through PayPal - typical international shipping on these will be about $7-10. These items are in currently production and are expected to ship in late January/early Feb. First come, first shipped. www.indycals.net/parts/f1parts/78-312t3parts.html

Hi what a Great start to one of the (IMO) lesser models of the early 1/20 Tamiya models and i will be following this because I'm also re-doing my T3
Are a bit curious if you also will be removing the over simplified front wing mounting plate? which was according to my reference not integrated solid in the bottom plate like Tamiya did (i could be wrong?...and if i am...i have a problem with my build)
kind regards thijs

This is great. When I bought my kit there also was an started included. When I learned that the Tamiya kit only could be built as Carlos British GP car I was going to ask how to convert it to an other configuration but now I found this thread. Btw Michael. Your decals for the 312T3 wereincluded for both kits. Do you think they will work on this car as well or do you plan for new decals for it?

Then that is a set I will have to get and the parts as well. I am planning to build three Lotus 79 from Canada 1978 so a Ferrari would break up all that black

And I just got notice that the parts have shipped from Shapeways so my end of month/early Feb estimate has been revised to end of week, early next week.

The side pods needed to have the front portion trimmed off - this actually makes the build easier as there will be no need to fit any bodywork around the front suspension. Two-tone paint applied to the sidepods

Michael. When I bought a second hand T3 I also got an half built kit so I decided to build it as a late 1978 car. I have been following your instructions and are waiting anxiously for the next step

Painted body and completed Seat Belts. This is the Tamiya Seat Belt Set A that I sell, but am out of stock (backlog on Tamiya's end). It was my first time using this set and I was very happy with it, although it would be nice if the belt material (sticker) was pre-cut.

I think you should have use the BIG white decal on the cowling instead of painting it!
