Needed a little "side project" to work on since the Bourdais build is intense, and kind of at a stand still until I decide how to handle decals. I have had the decals done for this car since September 2011, but after the accident I didn't think I wanted to look at it on my shelf as a constant reminder of that tragic race. But, as time has gone on wounds have healed and I decided to give this a go to keep myself sharp. Just starting on the decals, printed up by our friend gwsdecals who did a great job as always. Very happy with the yellow. I was fearful it wouldn't match the paint I'm using for the engine cover but it came out great with a nice white underlay. Should be a quick build up, just working on the engine cover yellow paint areas. Still ISO a proper camera pod for these Dallaras. Anyone willing to sell me a few in resin? Would also love to have the proper mirrors. I'm not out to steal your parts and resell them, I just desperately want them to make my models accurate!

Very nice job on designing this scheme. The build is coming along well.

Thanks for the always kind words Jordan! You guys keep me motivated to keep learning. If you see something wrong, shout it out! I don't look at mistakes as a frustration anymore, but rather a learning experience. Ask sadler21 about my bonehead move with the Shapeways speedway wings I didn't know they were covered in wax and i couldn't figure out why my red paint, cured 24 hours, ripped right off! haha Picture of the "real" car (there are very few of them because of the accident) from practice. I'm building it in race trim (no tire ramps) so this will look a little different in the end. This also shows the mirror style I'm looking for. I would hate to have to bust up one of my models senn65 built me to try and cast mirrors and cameras but that may be my only option!?

I can't believe that this hobby is now RELAXING for me. Was having a really rough night as "dad" tonight trying to give my wife a long break to sleep this evening. Was so stressed and down that I hadn't done a good job keeping the baby happy, and amazingly the thing that calmed me down was working on this model. Been at this one for parts of just 2 days and I'm damn near ready to put it on display! Amazing how much your personality can change in such a short time. Thanks to everyone here who has always been encouraging, and constructive. It's truly a pleasure to be a part of this group. It's nothing but positive energy around here. How about some pics? Enough rambling, right!?

Great job so far! This and the white with red flames car her drove in Toronto one year are the two PT cars I've wanted to do for a while now. Keep the pics updates and rambling coming!

Nice job Mike. I totally agree. I am my most peace when I am modeling. Family vacations kill me because I start getting modeling withdrawls after a few days! LOL Great stress killer to.
One of these days when you get braver. I will show you how to move the front wing back to the correct position.

And I hear you about this relaxing you. I have a 3 year old and when he's napping or busying coloring is when I get to build now a days and its great to calm you. I hope to get caught up on some personal builds after all those commissioned jobs drained me out. But I'm starting to miss it again. And getting all anxious and stressed without my meditation/building alone time lol.

They were giving out ABC Supply cars from about 2005 at Festival on Main St. this year and everyone in our group grabbed one for me. They don't have the new aero bits like the 2008 Dixon winner and beyond, but they give me lots of spare parts and there are lots of cars that can be built without the tire ramps.

Chalking this one up as DONE except for a few details and a couple of decals I want to resize and replace. Really happy with how this turned out. Still need to clear it, but it's looking sharp! Used Testors Cadmium Yellow Enamel for the roll hoop stripe and it was a great match for the laser printed yellow, with white backing. I have sent the corrections (and a few additional decals I missed) on to gwsdecals so he can put these up for sale. For anyone looking for a great "starter" conversion, keep this one in mind. Very simple, but still gets you some practice with masking and such. Shoot the engine cover and roll hoop in yellow, mask, then shoot black to match the car.

Waiting on some replacement decals to arrive. Wasn't happy with the sizing I gave Gary for McAfee and Arma on the engine cover. In the mean time, I got my 3D printed mirrors and camera from Shapeways, with the help of our friend indy These turned out so well, I think I'm going to start making custom front wing endfences too. These were so cheap ($12 shipped) for 6 mirrors and 3 cameras that I think there may be a market for the proper endfences everyone got crazy with in the later years of the chassis. I also cut some styrene to build the rear wing 10 degree flap and glued it in place. Wish I felt frisky enough to make wickers but I don't want to push my luck

I know you want the wickers for the back wing but I used 90 degree plastic pieces that the local hobby store sells in varies sizes. Just cut what you need and glue in place. I used them for these two. Hopefully you can tell in the pictures what I am talking about.

Also thought I would throw the picture of the mirrors I did out of balsa wood. I hated trying to get two that matched perfectly. I am going to purchase some from shapeways.

Checkered flag on this build! My photos suck (bad lighting in office) but the color is perfection in person.

That yellow really pops! Makes for an impressive custom.
Was thinking about the camera resize the other day. I need to get that up on Shapeways!
