Okay, here is one I was figuring out yesterday:
Michael Andretti has been (full/part) owner of 3 of the last 4 Indy 500 winners. Then, the previous four Indy 500 winners were all former AA/AGR drivers. So, 7 of the last 8 500 winners have an Andretti connection.
That thought also had me also pondering that no one has really retired from Andretti..... whatever that means. Maybe just Herta?

Sunday night I was looking at the Hot Wheels' box from the Mario car that came with this year's 500 program and on the back are the facts from his 1969 Indy 500 win. I noticed that Mario led 116 laps to win in 1969 and it clicked that Simon had just won Indy with exactly 116 laps led. I looked it up and only twice in the 103 Indy 500s has the winner led 116 laps and it was these two races exactly 50 years apart and in a year where we honored the 50th anniversary of that '69 win.

Wife text me today that my son read that the 1976 500 winner (JR) finished last the next year.
I told her that JPM did the same in 2016 after winning 2015.
That sent me down a rabbit hole....
I looked up JR's career 500 stats. JR is a three-time 500 winner but only finished 200 laps twice in 24 starts. For context the top 5 in 500 starts: AJ 8 of 35 (races finishing 200 laps) Mario 5 of 29 Al Sr 7 of 27 JR 2 of 24 Gordy 4 of 24
For reference, Mears finished 200 laps in 7 of 15 starts.
I knew modern-day reliability would make current-day comparisons impossible, but it was interesting that Helio has completed 200 laps in 13 of 19 starts.
Back to the original fact, JR also finished 32nd in 1981 after his 1980 win. So, the years after Indy wins he finished 2nd, 33rd, and 32nd.

That's neat stuff Jordan. Thanks for taking that trip down the rabbit hole and sharing what you found.
