This arrived today from Grand Prix Models in the UK. Its one of the great 'what if' Indy cars. My first test fittings indicate it should go together very well and the detail looks good. Kudos to SMTS for producing such a unique Indy racer. Two small nit picks- the photos on the GPM website show an unbuilt kit with a resin body , but it arrived as a white metal one . I'd rather work on a resin (Duane, thats rosin) body ANYDAY than a white metal one; second, SMTS is still using rubber(ish) tires that are difficult to decal and sometimes split after a number of years. Other companies like Marsh have switched to resin/rosin ones, easier to paint to the shade you want, decal and will last as long as the rest of the model. Overall and nit picks aside, it's two thumbs up. Break out the Tamiya Flo Red. Sandy

Oh man, what a temptation! I so want to compare my Tameo Lotus 56 chassis to this Lotus 64. I’ve often wondered if a MPC Lotus 56 could be used as a basis for building a 1/25th scale Lotus 64. The two chassis were very similar in almost every dimension. Now where do I get a turbocharged Ford engine……………………………..so many projects, so little time! Thanks for posting this Sandy. Bet it’s going to look great.
Stu buddy, look what you can convert next in 1/18th scale!

Wow thats neat! I wonder if White Metal is easier for them? Must be...I know it would be faster.
I might think about doing a 1/43 Apache car......

So many neat cars coming out in different scales. I wish these cars were like a copy machine and I could shrink them to 1:64 scale.

Paul Erlendson Were it that simple Paul! While the 56 & 64 have a basic similarity in being 4wd, references I have seen suggest different enough dimensions and very different mechanical detail. It would probably be easier to start from scratch. There are a variety of components in the MPC 56 kit that exhibit in some cases quite a bit of artistic licence. At the same time, in many respects it is better than no kit at all in 1/25 scale. I would suggest that the MFH 1/20 Lotus 56 exhibits a much better replication. Cheers Stephen

Wow! Looks like a great kit! I am sure Sandy that Calvin or Lance could take one of your rubber tires and recreate them in resin without a lot of effort. The rims appear to be slip fit instead of the rim having a lip on them. I know, easy for me to say but just a thought.
If I were ever to scratch build a car in 1/18th that didn't race, this would be the one.
