Much better than the Blue Tape which was better than masking tape. Blue tape is for masking the inside of houses (Water base paint)

I've been using scotch blue edge lock that is made for metal. I have tried frogtape, 3M automotive masking tape, all kinds of stuff.

Tamiya tape is the best for modeling bar none. It is very thin so it doesn't cause large volume of paint to build up against the edge that causes chipping when removed.

I should give it another try. It was the first tape I tried to use and I thought the thin tape was the reason for bleeding. It probably wasn't.

Got the Tamiya tape in yesterday and I gotta say, much better. Here is the engine cover.

Here's an update. Just when I think I'll be able to finish this paint I still have more to do!

I thought is was going to be the Sunoco car but I just looked that up and it is totally different. Nice clean lines, I hate painting too (only when something does not come out right). Which is 75% of the time.

It is based on the Ana Beatriz/Mike Conway paint job from last season, but it is a 'fictional' with red and blue instead of the orange/light blue. I use this paint scheme in iracing, so I decided to do a 1/18th replica.

I worked with Ana last year at Indy. Your paint was confusing the heck out of me because it looked familiar but off at the same time.

Getting closer... Have to thank Gary for the excellent decals, had a couple of issues putting them on but luckily I did have some extras! Next move is to paint the fasteners, then clear coat. A bit concerned with that as I've read some horror stories via google about Krylon spray paint then adding clear coat.

Use TESTORS Clear and you will not have a problem. Seriously.

If I can offer some advice, I would useFuture Floor Polish instead, especially if you've used Krylon or Rustoleum. I had a car completely done except for clear coating and when I sprayed it, the paint and decals all crinkled and looked awful. I had to completely start from scratch again, which left me more than a little salty.
If you do use Future, I usually pour some into a paper cup and brush it over the car. After that, take a paper towel and dab away the excess. After the second coat, the car should be good to go with a nice solid coat to protect it and has a real nice shine when light hits it

DONT USE KRYLON CLEAR! It will be 100% disaster if you do...I guarantee you the decals will get ruined and something will react with the paint job.
Go with Future floor wax....which is actually now called Pledge With Future Shine.

Use TESTORS Clear and you will not have a problem. Seriously. This is what Chrome had suggested to me via PM. And Chaparral2k, I did have Krylon clear in my hand at Walmart yesterday, but decided that I better get a 2nd opinion lol! Which Testors clear should I use? www.hobbylinc.com/htm/tes/tes2936.htm

In my message I advised you to use Testors clear. To test Krylon in spare plastic and spare decal to see if it would damage it. Testors was recommended to me by everyone else also.

The car looks great. I would recommend the lacquer clear over the enamel clear as their enamel clear can yellow over time. The lacquer is very forgiving and pretty much goes over everything without issue.

They are recommending Testors Clear Lacquer or Model Masters Clear Lacquer. NOT Testors Enamel as that will for sure eat your ALPS decals.....IMO I still would use Future even though the Testors Lacquer is pretty safe I would still be worried putting it over that paint job with those other unknown types on it.

What you have here is really nice indy. Looks like you've done many of these for the results.

Along with my CART Visteon and Castro cars, they still sit in a box somewhere. I'm gonna go for the testors and will definitely do tests before I spray the whole thing. And Mike, yes; it is me! Dunno if I'll do a speedway wing for this or not.

Yes, my bad and I should have specified. Testors Lacquer. Goes over anything and everything I have tried it on with no issues. The thing I don't like about the Future is that if you do have a mistake(Lint, or piece of hair)it is very difficult to fix as it peels rather than sands. Just my two cents.

I believe Future can be removed with Windex or other ammonia based products. Jordan
