Once in a blue moon I get a strong feeling... 1982, 87...89... 2008 and 2009. Got them all right.
This year I have a strong feeling again: Pagenaud

Carpenter on the pole and he is my dark horse. Ryan Hunter-Rhey is my pick. I also have a funny feeling about Marco but hopefully not.

Well, 1987 was a bit generic... my exact prediction was "one of the wiley old veterans or Guererro"... I consider that a hit. All the others were direct hits. I even told Dixon two days before the race he would win.

I didn't consider Mears a wiley old veteran in 87.

I like Michael's pick, so I'll go in a different direction:
Pole: shouldn't say as qualifying is on as we speak.
Win: Ed C. Not the best overall driver, but magic on the ovals.
Dark horse: J.R. Does anyone have more to prove at Indy?
Looks like I'm all in on ECR. Not a huge fan or anything, just think are primed and ready for this race. MJ

Recorded qualifying but haven't had time to watch. Montoya had a 231four lap Saturday? Why didn't he make the fast nine? I'm sure I've missed something.

Montoya did the 231 yesterday on the 2nd day of qualifying. The new format made for an interesting day but I'm still a fan of the old way. Guess that's only really suspenseful when there is about 40 or more cars attempting to make the race. I listened to the online stream both days which was enjoyable. I didn't call the pole, I kind of thought Castroneves might get it. I can't believe HCN already has four poles, I guess I'd forgotten it had been that many! I'd like Power to win the 500 with Carpenter as my darkhorse. The Honda powered cars, especially Pagenaud and Andretti, look to be legitimate on race day. Surprised nobody's picking Chip's crew, they are off on speed but it would be surprising to see them that way on race day. And Kurt Busch is in the wall off two!
Pretty big hit. He looks ok.
Welcome to the big-leagues Mr. Busch!
And I'm liking my pics. Would have picked Ed for pole but as qualies were underway (and Ed was fastest) I figured that wouldn't be fair.
Not sure if Hinch winning pole would have been better for the sport - he and Ed couldn't have more different personalities - but EC & ECR deserved it.

MJ I put it up on a NASCAR modeling forum as 220mph. Someone the other day said Indy was boring with no passing. To which I politely pointed out that he hadn't watched in a few years and should tune in for this one because the DW12 makes for a draft party at Indy. Jordan

Newgarden for my dark horse I think a win by a SFH or Coyne car would be about as well accepted as TK's win last year. They both have struggled for years just to make ends meet that an Indy win would be extra special to them. They both have the equipment with talented drivers to just make them a good dark horse pick. Just one man's humble opinion. Jordan

Not a big surprise but Kurt will be switching to a backup car for the 500. He will not have to forfeit his starting position from what I understand.

i'm pulling for newgarden and sarah.:-) duane Me too, Duane. My little brother is their gearbox tech guy and air jack over the wall on pit stops. Would love to see the little guys do well. I wouldn't bet against Michael's intuition either. Pagenaud is solid and could be a contender.

Unless the rules have changed in the last 24 Hr.'s Kurt Busch Will have to start in 33rd position if he goes to a Back Up car for the race. The rules STATE that the CAR quality's not the driver. So by using a back up car as a replacement he will go to the back of the field.

I saw a comment in this article stating that KB wasn't going to lose his Q position before finishing my post and Marshall Pruett is usually pretty reliable (I think). www.racer.com/indycar/item/103685-indy-500-kurt-busch-smacks-wall-on-223mph-lapJordan

I really hope Helio wins.....I have such a sentimental feel for Pennzoil cars that it would be wonderful to see that bright texas gold scheme win. I think the reason why I have such an obsession for Pennzoil cars is because back in the good ol' days when my family owned a dealership we used to be a Pennzoil dealer and dad would always bring home Pennzoil hats, shirts, coats, diecast cars, posters of all the race cars (early 90's) and one time Pennzoil even gave us a 1988 Rick Mears Indycar go kart which I raced around our place for years. So that's why I like those yellow cars.

I have been reading all the posts and trying to decide what my pics should be but I don't have a warm and fuzzy about anyone. I would like to see Marco break the Andretti curse but would also like to see a dark horse win like Graham Rahal or Oriol Servia. Newgarden is another one I would like to see win too. Reality wise, I think it will either be Power,Hunter-Reay or Helio. Munoz could surprise everyone though. Heck! I just want it to be a great as last year but to finish under green.

There is an article on IndyCar.com today saying Busch is cleared to drive and will retain his starting spot of 12th. Anyone remember when this rule changed?
