So, now it's double points for the 3 500 mile races, plus points for qualifying at Indy. I don't care for gimicks (the Chase, F1's double point finale) but I think I like this. It acknowledges the huge amount of work and skill it takes to finish, let alone win, a 500 mile Indycar race. Plus it acknowledges that the 500 IS more important than any other race.
What do you guys think?

I like it. Back in the days of USAC, points were awarded by miles run. Indy 1000 points while a 100 mile race the winner only got 200.

Anything that is like the olden days is a good thing.

I was going to jump in on this, but then it hit me, I really don't care. They continue to throw gimmicks, rather than facing the real problem.

I do not think this is a gimmick. like stated above they are trying to separate the more difficult tracks and reward teams and drivers for their efforts that they put into those bigger races. To tell you the truth I think they are heading in the right direction it is just going to take time. It will never be the same. Everything changes. The 30's were different from the 50's and the 70 and 80's were different from times before. Change is what happens.
