I promised a WIP on this kit, so here goes. Started, as usual with a good soak with this stuff, followed by dish washing soap. Having paint flake off because of release agent sucks. After fitting the interior, some sanding was required on mine, I primed and painted the inside with TS17 Aluminum. The wheels and tires are finished. The cockpit is mostly finished. I like to paint the tire tread with this, to give a scuffed look. This kit has a full belly pan, so the interior must be in before the pan is glued on. Take Care Craig Jordan, You can move this to the "Buildorama" section if you wish.

Due to a superglue malfunction, and the following outburst (which thankfully my wife did not hear) I found it better to make a new dash panel. I glued these on to a thin styrene sheet. Then drilled and painted another sheet. The "chrome" trim around the gage faces was super easy. I'm quite pleased with the end result. It would be great if Michael would do a sheet of guage faces. Ditto on the gauge faces! Both black and white faces. Did you just insert the tip of the Sharpie into the holes to get the trim look? The dash looks great!

Just put the tip in and rotate it, John. You will get a little build up on the edge. After I glued the sheets together I put a drop of epoxy on the face for the lens. Take Care Craig

That's what I thought, but I wasn't sure. I have that Sharpie on my bench. Once in a while I can actually find it!!
Thanks John

One tip about the old gauges is that teams/mechanics/drivers would have them rotated, so the normal ranges were always pointing straight up. That way the driver didn't have to spend much time looking at them. If all the needles were straight up, then everything was fine.

Very true, I usually put a red line on the face with a sharpened toothpick but in this case, I was just tired of messing with the part. When what I do for fun and relaxation turns into frustration and stress, I just have to walk away for a time. Take Care Craig

Those moments when you just have to walk away are sometimes the most important part of the process. It took me years to learn when to do that.

The new dash is in. Gary made the kit so that you could install a MPC Ford engine if you wanted. This one will be curbside, so I glued a styrene plate to mount the exhaust, I painted the engine bay flat black. The belly pan is glued on. Whenever and wherever I can use it, Epoxy is my weapon of choice for resin kits. I find it cheaper, more reliable, and easier to control than superglue. I did not forget the steering wheel, it will be added later Take Care Craig

I forgot to glue a sheet of styreme in for the exhaust.....before gluing the belly pan on.......thats why I need to stick with just one model at a time instead of loosing my train of thought working on 10 models at the same time....

These are beautiful cars. This really is a great time with all the guys we have working hard for our niche of modelers. Thanks for making this one a possibility, Craig. Good progress so far, can't wait to see it keep coming together.
Calvin, don't you use superglue? Get some debonder, it is great to have on the bench... I have two bottles right now, though I'd trade the 2nd one for some accelerator which I can't find right now LOL

Calvin, you can just glue the header to the front of the opening. It won't be as secure, but it will cover the opening just fine. Jordan, If you think that this is a great time to be a Indycar modeler, just wait until 2014, you are going to be blown away. If anyone asks what you want for Christmas, tell them MONEY, you are going to need it. Take Care Craig

Yeah I use superglue, I'm not worried I'll work around the problem....I'll just do what Craig said.

Craig, given the cars that have been done in the last few years I don't know how it can get much better. But I'll take your word for it. Could you at least give us a hint so we know how much money we'll need? I keep telling myself I don't need anymore kits, but there's always something I can't live without looming on the horizon.

John You need all you can get. I know that Calvin has some really neat things planned. Gary will have a 39- 40 winner out shortly as well as a Detroit Spl. He also has another kit almost ready that he won't tell me about. He and I will do a 67 version of the Eagle. I'm sure that Lance will have some neat offerings. There will also be an announcement that will just blow you away. I wont say any more about that. Take Care Craig

Got some primer on the body Don't forget to drill for the lower A arms. I almost did. Paint on, needs touchup around the nose. And the side tank The paint is TS 53. I think that the 66 and 67 cars were metallic paint, and the 69 and 70 were dark navy blue. I'm still going back and forth on the 68. I don't want to start a color debate, it's my car and I like the color. I am trying to build 1 car in the same amount of time that Calvin builds 10. We will see. The car looks better than the photos show. Take Care Craig

I don't want to start a color debate, it's my car and I like the color. That's the way it should be, Craig. If you want help from the group on picking a color, there is certainly a lot of expert eyes here or even better, someone who knows someone who painted the 1:1. But if you have a color you like, just do it! Jordan

That's because I told you to use TS 55 on the 51 winner. Your turn. I think you should have used Tamiya AS-8 Navy Blue with a TS65 Pearl Clear.

The 69 and 70 cars are also metallic, at least the Indy Eagles I was in were,, a bit darker and the metal flake is finer so in some light it appears Navy Blue. I know this has been debated for years, but when I asked Dan what paint they used he responded Cadillac Fire Mist Blue.. On 69 Santa Ana "Rollout" Eagle I dared to use House of Kolor "Cobalt Blue" and it is extremely nice!!! Maybe not 100% accurate but as a Rollout car I felt I had a bit of artistic freedom.. Sorry, Chris. I did not make myself clear. Based in the photos I have seen, the colors I posted are what I believe, I very well could be wrong. I don't argue color with anyone except Calvin LOL. Please don't take anything Calvin and I say to each other to heart, we sure don't. Take Care Craig
