Here is another WIP for you all! Its time to do the 1985 Winner! The "Spin and Win!" Which Mario probably doesn't partially care about. I bet everyone that day was thinking Mario was going to pull it off once again since Danny was nowhere to be found for the first half of the race. Then all of a sudden with 3/4 of the way to go Mario's car was no match at all for Danny. Must of been very frustrating for any Mario fan. This 85 March body is a master design of Michael P. I'm using all sorts of parts on this car from my indycar junkyard. -88 March rear end -88 March rear win supports -86 March rear wing -88 Lola front suspension -88 Penske front wings -88 Penske undertray (modified) The rear wing for 86 March is too big for 85 specs so I'm cutting it down.

Must of been very frustrating for any Mario fan. Yes it was. It was the first 500 I attended in person and turn 1 was out of my line of sight and there were no video monitors back then. All I heard over the loudspeaker was that Danny had spun. I figured he was out of the race - you don't spin and not hit something or at least kill your engine. I was sitting at pit entrance and Mario comes by... followed by Danny. It was as if I had seen a ghost, and I knew Mario's goose was cooked at that point.

Any particular reason for picking the specific junkyard parts over others? Like why the '88 March gearbox over the '86 kit or even your '84 resin one? Just didn't know it they were picked being something handy or a dead ringer!?

Jordan, I'm glad you're asking this. There's always a method to his madness, but he seems to have taken his madness to a new level with this one!

You didn't get an undertray with that? Nope. Is there supposed to be a resin undertray sold with the '85? I haven't ever seen Bill sell one with his. Nic

I just got done with the most dreaded part, masking off the star! Who knows if I did it right? I'll know when I apply the decal on there. I just sprayed the red on so no turning back! I'm pretty sure I screwed up this side - I always notice 'things' after the fact.... usually looking at the picture.

A mark of a good model builder is how well they cover over their mistakes. We'll see if I can cover over all my mistakes....

No worries, I'll get the stars fixed...........after I'm done you will not even know. This is the fun of model building is the challenge of saving your "donkey butt" from time to time.

Great job saving the red and white there, Calvin! I also like the flat black - it helps the body a lot. The red and white with gold Miller scheme from this era is a great look. Almost as nice as that teammate car Jordan

Nice to have you back and your work on this is wonderful, as usual. I've always thought this car was one of the most beautiful as far as winners go, but that paint job scares me to death. I give you high marks for pulling it off.

Getting that gold trim decal matched-up looks like a real pain in the arse.
