Hi Russ! Not a whole lot to report. The body has some heavy coats of paint so I'm letting it dry for about a week, just to be sure. Did get some painting done on small stuff like the seat, wheel and tires, etc. The Firestone name was sanded off the tires and will be replaced with a decal. Just to see how it would work, I used a circle template and a Prismacolor #PC950 Metallic Gold artist pencil to do the Firestone gold stripe (This circle stripe is raised on the resin tire). This came out pretty well and was fairly easy. I'll post a photo when done. One plus thing about doing this WIP is that it has helped me stay focused on one main project which is a real problem for me! Sandy

The Jorgensen kit of the Turbine, "BD" (before decals). The masking around the front suspension openings was pretty tedious. I made a copy of the decal sheet and cut out the stripe & numbers and checked them against the intake opening. This showed there would be some red showing around the opening. So I extended the inside black a little on to the surface. The paint edges will be covered by the decals. Gettin' there! Sandy

Looking really sweet, sandy. I have enjoyed following this one along, also. I have Bill's resin kit (was looking at it yesterday!) and you have helped me immensely. Looking forward to seeing the finished product! Mongo

Hi Russ, Thanks for asking. It's ready to be decaled, but the decal/paint problem with the Lotus Turbine has stopped progress (along with the holidays). Since the last report I've been repairing the Lotus and trying to prevent a repeat disaster . I've sanded out it's damaged paint (only the numbers & large STP decals were problem areas) and applied about 3-4 coats of Testors clear gloss acrylic. Hopefully this will work as a barrier between the decals and the paint. I was planning to re-decal it today and if this goes OK, then I'll start clear coating the Paxton Turbine. In the meantime I've started on Bill Jorgensen's '62 Watson and a AMT Lola T8800. Here are the Turbines as of this morning, Sandy

Hey Sandy! Both of these are looking super! I hope to be posting some of my own work shortly. I've been reconstructing the nose of my AMT Lotus 29 and it is just about ready for a public unveiling. Can you send me an e-mail sometime about your Watson you are building. I've got two of these myself and I'm wondering about the best way to install the axles and suspension. Have a happy New Year! Tim

Thanks Tim, Looking forward to seeing your Lotus 29. My Jorgensen Watson is in the very early stages. I do know the front axel hangs on the small eye hole (on the middle of the axel) when you mount it via a small piece of rod drilled into the main body. This helps to get all wheels on the ground also. The rear, I'm not so sure about yet. Hey, anyone out there thats built one of these let us know what you did on the rear. I'll post some photos when it gets a little further on. Whose car are you going to do? I've sent a PM with my email address. Sandy

Like that old song, "Tragedy... woo,woo... Tragedy....", I wasn't happy with the acrylic clear coat I sprayed over it. So I was sanding it back down to the color coat when... I dropped the damn thing. It knocked two big chunks of paint off the nose. Caused me to go drink a beer (or two, or well, more!). It's sitting in a box, all the small parts are done, I just took a break from it before going back and refinishing it. It will be a good winter project.

See... that's why I don't clear coat. One last opportunity to ruin an otherwise great model ;-)

The law of model building: 1 mistake + trying to fix it = 3 future mistakes To bad that had to happen it was looking good

See... that's why I don't clear coat. One last opportunity to ruin an otherwise great model ;-) AMEN MICHAEL!!!I have many horror stories of good models going bad because of a lousy clear coat mistake. Sandy, sorry to hear that. The model was looking great and will be again, I'm sure of that. One time, I was building the elusive 1/20 MPC Turbine, had it done, decaled and clear coat sprayed on it, put it down on the work bench to only have the work light I placed near it to fall on it scrapping most of the decals off the upper surface. After crying, cussing and fuming, I went and got a Margarita and calmed down, wrote another check to Fred Cady for another set of decals and while I was waiting, I sanded the bugger down to bare plastic and repainted the damn thing again. That was the last model I used any form of clear coat on. Now I used Future Floor Wax as a top coat. Goes on smooth, slick and with no hassles and dries very hard and won't yellow. Chris Etzel got me using it on my Strombecker Watson Roadster Slot Cars so when we would crash them racing them on my floor track, nothing would be scraped off. Future is designed to be walked on after all. Best to you all! Russ

Yeah, I may have to re-evaluate the clear coat thing! I've used Future in the past with very good results, but this time I didn't and it was step one to disaster. Sandy
