So all the Chevy teams changed engines after a failure early in the weeks meaning all 11 cars will face a 10 grid spot penalty inc, Penske and Andretti, 3 Lotus teams changed engines inc. Bordais etc so 14 cars will be moved back 10 grid spots each for the race.. ..... Huh!!! Chris

Michael, is the reason you like the wet races because the decals transfer off that much easier?

I'm with Michael, rain is the great equalizer. The most important factor usually boils down to certain driver attachments.

I hate to say it but today is sunny and clear, Temps are in the mid 60's which is great for Turbo engines but not so good for tires! Qualifying starts in a couple of hours so we shall see!!! Chris

Oh, and Tamiya had a huge display with everything on sale at the Expo. I picked up a JPS Lotus 79 for 34 bucks! They are always over 60 in the Bay Area. ;D

I don't know why? He's in California and caught some good air... dude! Besides, the wreck is one for the highlight reels now. ;D I know, I probably shouldn't say that since airborne Indycars can be a crapshoot in terms of how well it comes out on landing. But it was impressive to watch. I guess those new sidepods make it a little easier for somebody to launch off a front wheel even if a back wheel launch isn't so likely now.

Penske again... another race I don't mind missing. I see getting a whole new car didn't help much.

Even though Power won, it was much more competitive than you would think by just seeing the result. Too bad for Newgarden. I was hoping for a good run for him. My little brother is their gearbox specialist, so I was hanging in their garage a little bit on Saturday. It was like hanging out with a Cal Club team or something, it was so low key and Josef was just hanging around, not really getting much attention. That is until qualifying ended...

I've seen the highlights and I was so hoping that Simon Pagenaud would catch him. That would have been a great story!

I find this very strange. From Autosport:
IndyCar team KV Racing Technology has been fined an undisclosed amount after Tony Kanaan's car failed a post-race technical inspection at Long Beach two weeks ago.
The series said in a statement that Kanaan's car was found to be in breach of rule 14.7.2 of the IndyCar rulebook, which states: "The maximum capacity of the fuel cell shall be 18.5 US Gallons."
Kanaan achieved a season-best result of fourth in the race.
Is Indycar trying to say that KV racing went to all the trouble to install an illegal fuel cell in TK's car? I find this hard to believe and think that maybe they should test all the cars.

All the fuel cells are technically larger than the league maximum because of expansion and shrinking. The cell is a flexible bladder rather than a tank. To deal with this, the teams use filler in the form of large, plastic balls about softball size. It is a process of trial and error to get the maximum fuel in without going over. It sounds like KV just missed it by a small amount, technically a violation but not intentional, like literally having an oversized tank. While they are at it, perhaps Indycar should figure out how WP managed to do what no one else could fuel wise.

Just exactly what I was thinking. Power pitted earlier than Sato and yet miraculously made it to the end. The announcers were scratching their heads over this feat of "fuel conservation".

I hope it does rain, the rain kings, Rubens, Pagenaud & even Simona will do very well even if she's driving a sled.
