This kit was given to me a few weeks ago, which was a very very nice gift I might add! I really dont know much about the olden days but I have great respect for them. What I plan to do since this is a very rare kit, I'm going to build it for a mold and resin casting. 6/23/13 EDIT: From what I hear Gary D. is going to do this kit so, I'm not going to bother with making a resin kit out of this. I dont plan to work on this everyday but I'm just doing this thread to gain knowledge from anyone that has any info on this car. I just thought I would get "the ball rolling" on this thread so to speak. Funny Engine! ;D

My first question for anyone that knows..... Does the seat need to be flush (like in the picture) or does it need to stick out forward a little? I also know the right side of the cockpit needs to be covered as well as the right side part of the hood.

The important thing to note is that closed-off right side of the cockpit.

The important thing to note is that closed-off right side of the cockpit. Yep, even the right side of the hood that would cover the right side of the engine, to what extent, I dont know? Probably just an opening for the exhaust?

The hood straps and fasteners are 'largely' out of scale. -Rick

From what I've read they would leave section of the hood off if they needed extra cooling. Which would explain why its open on the left side in the above picture.

I thought I would bust out with the 1935 winner for a few mins, instead of watching primer dry on the DW12! Russ gave this to me a few years ago.....I thought I should get it done since he was nice enough to give it to me!!!!! You know! I would've gotten it done sooner but we all know all the heck I've been though the past year and I never got a chance! I've always liked the Gilmore cars from the olden days! Because I like to....

Edited for content and took most of it out. You two can PM me if you don't like the way I handled it.
The build is coming along nicely. The history is something I didn't know about - found another altercation via Google when I was looking this up. Kelly had a mixed up life!

Instead of glue, I'm using 1/25 scale bailing wire on this model! LOL

The 1935 Winner was also the first win for the great Offenhauser engine at the ole Speedway! (I wonder if it was held together with bailing wire?)

It's baling wire on a farm, safety wire on race cars. Safety wire was also known as Duesenberg hose clamp. Millers and Offenhausers of the era were generally very well prepared.

It was mentioned in an early post that Gary Doucette was coming out with a 1/25 kit of this car. It came out this week and you can see his ad on ebay. I am getting one in order to finally get a correct scale after years of the Aurora on my shelf. I enjoy reading the historical information. The Indy races in the '30s were real strategy races. Some years you guessed right and some wrong. Wilbur Shaw's record at the Speedway from 1935 to 1941 were really something and is worth studying carefully. I think only Rick Mears in the modern era seemed to have a similar record. Shaw was poised to overtake Petillo and win the 1935 race only for it to start raining. I didn't realize for a long time that race was shortened because of rain. Thanks for sharing the pictures and the information. Jim

Jim Gary had asked me about using my decals for his kit, but I never heard back, so I have no idea what he is using. However, before I got wind of his kit, I totally revamped my 35 winner decals - the lion and Gilmore type looks awesome, but since I never heard back or got a body, I can't say how well my flames will fit.
