Gentlemen; Work on the '65Parnelli has ground to a halt. I have been working with Russ, who supplied several of the masters, on a Monogram Kurtis upgrade. First, the wheels/tires which are Chris Etzell copies... Finished, they look like this... I have GOT TO get a new camera! These have pressure plates on both sides, so they can be used as the dish side or spokes side. The disc in the center (4 are supplied with the wheels) is used to cover the unused plate and can be used to become a brake disc.... The pieces: seat, firewall/transmission, side panels for engine, instrument panel, steering wheel (diecast;not pictured) and cockpit side... In use on my WIP, the Chapman Special, which finished second in 1955... If there is any interest, the wheels/tires/discs are $15 plus freight. The 7 pieces are $15 plus freight. I will begin a WIP to follow on the Chapman Special that will show more of these items in use. Thanks for looking! Tim

They look great

I'd like at least 2 of each to start off! What a great way to get more use out of that old warhorse of a kit!

Gentlemen: I received my die cast steering wheels, so I will be sending those out to those of you who have already received their conversion kits. I will also send a gear shift pin that can be bent and used on the transmission. Michael used both sets and may be doing a blog on them on his Indycals website. He pointed out a few flaws, particularly the left front tire. I am remolding it and I will send it out to those who already have wheel/tire sets. I have received little feedback, but if there are any concerns or problems ,please don't hesitate to contact me. I want the parts to be easy to use and up to your standards... Thanks again! Tim

Hi Tim, Thanks for the follow up on your Kurtis upgrade. Its a great set of parts and highly recommended. These parts and Michael's new decals make these old Monogram kits a blast to build.

Tim,
You say $15 plus shipping. Is shipping variable? Also, how do you pay? Do you take Paypal?

Stu: $5 for Priority; $3 regular. PayPal is : tdj1951@aol.com Address is: Tim Jones 1007 Pine Needles Dr. Sour lake, TX 77659
At this time I am a little behind (THANKS for all the orders guys!) I have remolded the wheels somewhat and tweaked a few things. All in all, a true learning experience. There are close to a hundred different Indy 500 versions that can be made of this car(from 1954 to 1962!) ; that is, if you can make/find decals. Michael has some cool new ones for this machine... Thanks again, Tim
PS: It's called Sour Lake because it had sulpher in it and was used as "healing waters." Then, in 1902, they drilled for oil and thus "Texaco" was born here. They pulled out so much oil, the lake grew when a big sink hole formed...

Well Calvin wants more WIP's, so I 're-started" several projects... The first is the Chapman Special update... It needs decals but I hate to impose on anyone since I don't know how many people would want to do this. The nose paint was a b*%$h... The paint looks more "blue green" in person... Thanks for looking... Tim

Cool! Your white stripe looks very good for being painted on, I know I couldn't of done it that good. (I'm not joking at ALL!) I would of cut out some white decal lines.

AHHHHHHH! Done at last... A VERY special thanks to Gary @gws Decals(gwstexas) for making these... This old warhorse sure "cleans up nice"... Tony B. started and finished second in this tragic race. A fun build... Kind regards, Tim

Great to see another Kurtis built. My next one will be the Hinkle Spl using your wheels and tires. After looking at this, I may have to build a Chapman Spl. Take Care Craig PS With all the Kurtis builds showing up, we may need another section on the board.

That. Is. Awesome.
And proof of the value of these boards, someone makes a conversion set and it doesn't have to live in a vacuum - people all over can enjoy it. So cool.

I recall that they were a medium blue; not light blue, and not metallic. Jim

Guys: Somewhere on this Forum, there was a thread that had color pictures of this car. I used "Bright Aqua Metallic" , a Duplicolor paint, because of those pictures. In person, this model is a blue-green. I couldn't find a non metallic with that shade. The die cast car is a deep blue, but I didn't see where they got that from. I'm learning that paint is very subjective...guys on here will state their ideas, but I believe that you should do research and then use what you think best. Not Everyone will agree, but the builder is the one who puts it on his shelf and lives with it. A case in point: the '41 winner was always seen as red and Petty Blue....then Michael digs up a picture showing it a much deeper shade of blue...if I had already built it, I would NOT strip and start over, just learn to live with it... I thought about a cig n his mouth like Fred Lombardo does...I consider Fred the "godfather" of modeling car drivers...he has done many that you see on Lance's site... SOOOOOO, I'm gonna take a picture with the cig and my new camera and see if the color changes to more blue green...it make take a while as all of my computer stuff was changed before Christmas and I''m still figuring out how to post pics... Tim
