Ian,
Scroll down Open Wheel Racing Modeling :: Formula One :: 1950-1969 until you get to a May 8 entry on the Cox BRM kit and in that article you'll find some photos of the Cox and Eldon cars side by side.

Yes, found them. super looking pair but different in the bodies, as we were suggesting earlier. Interesting how different model companies, and model makers, interpret things so differently, over the years I.ve moved closer to the "if it looks right , it is right" camp. some models I've made are technically correct but somehow just don't look right.
thanks for pointing toward the pics, Patrick. regards Ian

Well, I finally got around to vac forming the rear engine cover. It is now in the paint shop getting a coat of red. Next will be refining the exhaust, fitting the tires, and saying ah...it's for you Lorenzo! Patrick PS If anyone is going to do this car I can make an engine cover.

Well, I seem to be making a lot of mistakes in my building lately. The 246 was in final assembly when it became apparent that the front suspension was cock-eyed. So, i took it apart to correct the wogga. a small problem to fix! Patrick

Well, back together... ready for the rest of the exhaust... ...I will NEVER again leave the exhaust pipes to fabricate last! They were pure hell to bend just right! Done. Patrick

:oOh, one more thing...Martin pointed out that the car had knock-offs on the rear wheels. I still have to do that. Thanks for the reminder Martin!

That is an awesome build, and a great tribute to a lost racer.

I know its May, 2020 but the 1964-1969 Ferrari's and BRMs are still my favorites and now that I'm retired for good I'm in the acquisition mode and getting parts for my projects. I just picked up a nice 1/24 Eldon and Cox BRM slot car(s). However, the BRM's cast mag wheels have the corrosion crud, How do I remove the growth? There was a guy now long ago on eBay that sold refurbished Cox wheels at a good price but I can't find him anymore. So how do I clean and preserve magnesium wheels?

Beautiful Ferrari build. You happen to touch upon one of my favorite cars The BRM P261. I also had one of those Cox Slot cars years ago, I had it and the Sharknose as well. I keep wondering If I still have those lying around somewhere. I only wish there were a kit around for that BRM, hard to believe such a great looking car has been pretty much ignored. I wonder If you could sandblast that crud off the wheels ? I'll have to look for those cars I must still have them.

I talked with Phillipe De Lespinay , been friends since I was * and stay in touch even now, about the Cox Magnesium wheels and the best way to get them clean is Vinegar, a short soak in Vinegar will clean them up, for heavy corrosion a longer soak but keep an eye on them, I have also used the Badger Sandblast tool but carefully since sandblasting will pit them and leave them rough. Since my Dad was a Master model Maker at Cox I have collection of them. I have a BRM that I built in the 80's then it was kind of broken in the 1994 Northridge earthquake, its in line for a rebuild. I also Have the Ferrai F-1 , the Ferrari 206sp spyder, my Dad did the master on it, Chaparral 2D also my Dads Master , and Chaparral 2A/C Only the Ferrari is mint in that bubble/display case box the rest are restorations. Enjoy these, it took years to find most of them at an affordable price. Chris

I know this thread was way back in 2011 but I just picked up my favorite era F-1 cars the Cox and Eldon BRM 1/24 slots and the Cox 158 Ferrari. Now have to get all the ancillary pieces, tires and decals and reference material. Was on the Internet late last night and interspersed in Cobra websites and pictures, found a good photo of Chris Amon's Ferrari number 19 at Jarama, Spain. It is a 12 cylinder but I thought the 12's from 63-65 were "Flat 12's" but it appears to me that they may be 120 degree vice 60 or 90 degree of 66 on up. But this was 1969, was there two different 12 cylinders? I think in 69 they went to the 512s/M configuration heads. I guess I'll start boning up on Ferrari F-1 engines now. Anyone give me info?

A couple of things: I may have misidentified Amons #19 at Jarama, another photo was what I was looking at but it appears all the 1969 engines were the 60 degree V-12. However, I'm still wondering was the earlier "Flat 12", 120 or 180 degree? Found a lot of Amon photos of the 68 and 69 Tasman "Dino" Ferrari's open wheelers. Were they considered a F-1 or what? The engine is definitely a "sawed-off" 512 S style engine. I think I like the 68 with the mid-ships wing. I just received a set of Dunlop F1 tires, one BRM set rear 13 inch slick obviously Cox and one Ferrari 158 set rear I am unsure about . I can read they are Dunlop "S" but my eyes are too bad to make out the size. They ARE treaded and appear to be less "Ballon" sidewall than the Cox. Anyone know who made them? I've got a set of treaded Dunlops Urethane repops on eBay that says they are RUSSKIT 7.25 X 15 Rear Road Tires coming in soon but while nice, don't appear to be the same. Anyone out there in the know about treaded Dunlop slot car tires?

3.0 litre formula 1966 - 1969 all V12 ferraris 60°, Patrick´s car of 1966 is unique, an Aero chassis combined with an old but modernized F1 V6 65° 2.5 litre engine. From 1970 to 1980 all F1 Ferraris 312B to 312T5 were V12 180°. Then came the 1.5 litre turbos. Greetings Martin

Patrick Et Al, Just tried the vinegar on some Cox and Revell wheels, it does work, however: I put the wheels in a clear plastic fast food beverage cup and the vinegar immediately started bubbling and turning gray. I left the wheels in for about 5 mins. They were a little warm and the vinegar was warm and dark gray. I used an old toothbrush to clean and it did take off the corrosion and rinsed with running water. No pitting or degradation noticed but the Cox wheels appeared a little darker, the Revell's are a different alloy and stayed bright. I'm going to buy a jewelry/glass bead blaster (another, didn't use the 1st one) from Harbor Freight and see if that will lightly clean the wheels.

Patrick, I know its 07 July 2020 but cars will always be timeless and relevant. I picked up two pristine Cox 158s, one static, one slot and extra wheels. Will use my supply of AMT Lotus 29s as chassis. The "Round" Ferrari bell housing and transmission are "Odd" to say the least which the Cox static kit has as you know. I just picked up a painted Ferrari 1512 repop slot body, haven't received yet but it also has the "Round" Bell housing. The seller says he buys a bulk lot of painted bodies and has no control over color (a yellow swirled paint on a 66 312 doesn't turn me on, the seller thinks it is a Lancer. Do you know who made it? I can't get PhotoBucket to post photos the site won't open for me.

As far as I know Lancer only made the '66 short nose Monaco car and Dynamic the '66 regular nose. The Lancer body looks correct o me when compared with photos.
