This is my next 1/18th scale conversion. I am using a Carousel 1 77 AJ Foyt winner and converting it into Gary Bettenhausen's Agajanian Evel Knievel sponsored Offy. The car was basically a copy of Foyt's car. This build kind of goes hand and hand with the Dick Simon Travelodge Eagle I just completed. I took the engine from the Foyt, modified it and installed it in Dick'e Eagle. In turn, I am taking the Offy engine that I took out of the Eagle and putting it in the Foyt. Clear as mud? Anyway, this is going to be a really cool and fun build.

The builder of this car, Grant King, was allowed unprecedented access to Foyt's cars in Houston during the off season. King, in return for services and fab work, was permitted to measure and completely copy Foyt's Coyote. The only caveat was that King agreed to use Offy power and nothing else. In that vein, King could compete but not be a real threat to Foyt, as the Offy lagged behind his Ford/Foyt V-8. According to Grant, Foyt brought his people over to King's garage the following May to show them how King's car was nicer and the panels and bodywork fit better than on his!

That's going to look really nice! I grew up watching Evel do his thing, and while he was pretty srewed up in many ways, no one could promote himself any better. Also a big Gary B. fan and wish he had had more Indy success. Saw his (Indy) career-limiting accident at Syracuse. This will be a fine tribute to both. And yes, Grant King was an AWESOME fabricator. He really raised the bar for dirt modifieds, too. Keep the pics coming, please!

Stu, The tub is incorrect. Looking down from the top there is NO curve. It is a straight line. The C-1 Offy will fit without any problem as the model was designed to take an Offy.
I'm not trying to be a prick about it but the tub in your picture is incorrect.
Tom O.
p.s. I will drum up some pictures that will show this clearly.

Tom, any help or pictures you can give me would be great. I already removed my original wheel flips because they were not swoopy enough and actually a bit too tall so I am re-doing them.
I do beg to differ with you on the Offy fit however. The mounting tab in front of the Offy where it screws to the body is way different than the 4 Cam Ford. I am using a Foyt prototype as the donor so maybe C1 changed this design before production? The mounting tabs were so far off that I cut both mounting tabs off both engines and interchanged them.
No offense taken to the shape of the tub. The more I know only makes me smarter! ;D

On the pic of the real car is that duct tape on the nose by the car #?

After seeing a close up photo, it is clear it is not tape but two small aluminum wickers.

Correct! They are angled wicker bills and will go on later.
Right now I am redoing the cockpit. My red stripe is too long (vertically) and the reason for that is because I didn't paint the blue high enough up the cockpit side. Most people wouldn't notice or care but it's bugging me so back to the drawing board....
