Chap,
Initially the 84 Budweiser Mario is the car I wanted to do. Then I got to thinking about history and car significance. Do I do the car that won the Championship but did not finish at Indy, or do I do the car that finished 2nd in Sullivan's historic Spin & Win?
Then I saw Ralph Simpson's & John Edwards beautiful 85 Danny Sullivan conversions and thought Mario's 85 car would be the way to go. At first I had my mind set on Mario's Long Beach winner and the car started out that way. One day I was all set to open up the fuel fill on the right side of the car when a freind reminded me that INDY ONLY is what really matters the most and I changed directions.
The driver figure was built first before I even started converting the car. Once I made Mario in his Beatrice uniform there was no turning back. He stood there as insperation that the car had to match the uniform.
Maybe one day I will do Mario's 84. A big insperation to do it would be if Michael did the decals! (hint, hint...)

What a cool model. The Alclad on the wheels looks great.

Confession Art. I ended up not going the Alclad route and found some factory chrome rims instead. I would like to take credit for painting them but can't.

One of my favorite cars (OK, you all know I'm as big a Mario fan as Jordan is a Rick fan) done to absolute perfection. Stu, that was better than an art masterpiece. Congrats on a winner.

Very nice. I like it a lot. I tried an die cast conversions and now knowing how that material is to work with I am impressed. So how will I build one in 1/25?

Man that is a bad (expletive deleted) car. I wrote the guys at Carousel & asked why they didn't make more cars from the 80's & I specifically said this car in particular. They said it was because of demand and cost. Mario Andretti had back then & still has now many fans so I don't think there would've been any problems selling this model. I'd probaly buy two of them...

Yes- thank you for sharing the secrets of the body conversion with photos; awesome work, great car ! You should sign up to Greenlight or Mattel and show these people how DieCasts should be made.

With respect to other scales and modelers, I believe 1/18 is the future. The car is magnificent Stu! I may have a kidney to trade for this car
