Apologies if this is a "dumb" question but is there an easy and sure-fire way to tell if you are looking at trees from an AMT T-8900 kit versus an AMT T-8800 kit??
I read somewhere that unless you open up the box, you can't be certain what plastic is inside.
Thanks in advance.

I read somewhere that unless you open up the box, you can't be certain what plastic is inside. Thanks in advance. Not a dumb question at all!! Let's see... paradoxically, the better way to know you have an '89 kit is getting... the '90 one!! yep the kit with a pic with Andretti's '90 Lola on the boxx (blue nose) is ALWAYS an '89 kit. Then the Provimis and ALL-Whit Newman Haas eare always '88 kits. And according aour Fellow Michael, the Amway one is a bit of a lottery, you can find either '88 or '89 model. The better way to tell them apart (looking at the sprues) is that on the 89 car there's an additional radiator exit on the :LEFT sidepod at half cockpit level, while on the 88 one there's no vent on the front sidpod half. On the 89 car left sidpod looks flashingly different to right one. Also flip-ups are different, but the sidpod thing is an instant spot thing. Hope this helps....

I am more of a visual person and wanted to share this comparison photo of the two AMT kits in question. In addition to the body and wing differences, there is a small difference on the chrome tree. I didn't bother to photograph it because it is unlikely to show on the finished model. I am aware of Calvin's excellent thread on how to make the T-8900 kit more accurate (many thanks to him), this photo is just provided to those who want to be able to identify the differences between the two kits.

Beautiful build, Calvin. Stunning work. The Andretti-then-Rahal Kraco livery has always been one of my favorites for how much it stands out.
