Chris & Art....
I have always asked other modelers, why enter in model contests if not to learn? There is one guy here in Southern California that enters in every contest for God knows what reason. Modeling is for fun and to relax...Also, to build things we may have not seen other wise. The finished model is your trophy! I mean, I have won a few and it's nice, especially with the crowd at Chris' at the So. Cal NNL. GREAT GUYS AND GOOD MODELERS! It's the only contest I enter anymore due to how civil everyone is. Just have fun...No one here will chew it up.
Best to all!

Thanks for the kind words, Russ. I build to have fun and push my personal limits, I did a few years back, worry about my models being accepted and whether I would win a award at a show, but then it wasnt fun. I realized the finished model was the Prize and didn't really care if it was a subject that got recognition. I do builds like the Lotus 56b to share with my fellow modelers what Ive learned and if they pick up a tip or finish a model because they saw my build then the hobby is richer for it. I learn something with almost every build I do and I try to pass it on. Art, your Lola is coming along very nicely and from your posts I can see you are learning and having fun as well as sharing with your son, you already won the prize in my book... Chris

Chris, if you've ever seen some of my builds you'll realize that not everyone can build at an award winning level. It reminds me of golf. I normally shoot in the high 70s but when I have those rounds where an 83 pops up and I get pissed, my buddy reminds me that less than 1/5 of 1 percent of people that play golf can break 90. Same thing with models. My builds will never be as good as Russ, Calvin or Scott's (MacSparty), among others. But I love to learn how to make what I do better and Jordan can tell you how far some of my works have progressed. Your attention to detail is excellent and I like what you've done with what is one of my favorite cars.
Keep up the great works and let's see them on this forum.
Gregg

Guys, Thanks for the words of encouragement. I was just kidding about the criticism, because I know that everyone on this forum is very supportive and knew I would get positive feedback no matter how accurate it may end up. I totally agree with your perspectives and appreciate your comments on this one. I just wanted to get an Indy car done to participate on this board. You guys are a lot of fun and some of the most creative builders I have seen. Gregg, your builds are way cool too, and remind me not to play golf with you If I can get my hands on a camera that works, I'll get some current pics up. -Art

I tried to finish it for a show today, but it didn't happen. Around midnight last night, I realized I have about 2 weeks of work to do it the way I want it. Rushing it wasn't cutting it. It's actually done tonight, 4 weeks later! Unfortunately, my camera is broken so I can't get any pictures. I will post it as soon as I can get some shots...

Thanks, guys! I appreciate the comments. I'm sorry for the bad pics. They really leave out a lot of detail.
Thanks to everyone who helpd me out with reference photos and such, especially Chris who searched a bunch of photos for me. Also thanks to the mysterious SWT500 for answering a series of questions from me in trying to get the details right sorting out the spaghetti.
And thanks to Michael at Indycals for making a great product available to us. I really enjoyed applying the Indycals!

There are some areas that need a little attention that I didn't do so great with that I would correct on the next one, but I think there's a lot to work with. While working on this, I opened a Monogram Granatelli 88 Lola I have, and I wasn't all that impressed with it. How do you guys like the Monograms?

See Jordan....If a good modeler like Art takes his time, you can polish a turd!!!
Art,
In the words of my good friend Bob Clidinst, "Although I'm not happy about the scale, between the two kit manufactures, AMT at least gave you a different chassis..." Bob doesn't like 1/25 scale at all... But The Monogram kits use the same chassis for everyone of their late 80's Indy Cars. Now, you can built a beautiful model with one, but good luck painting the Granatelli car! With that said, have fun!! that is what it is all about anyway, isn't it? I know you will built a beauty....
Best to you!
Russ
