Hey Calvin...
I do believe my good friend, the late Bill Gebhard did this PC-7 for Fine Scale Modeler, in December of 1986. Are you using his article as a guideline for this project? Looks good so far!
Best to you!

Yep I dont see the article on this forum anymore? That I can see... The how to on the conversion is basic and easy to do. I went ahead and stepped up the detail on my side pods... but its a good article, it help me out. BTW if anyone is wondering what happen to the Alex food PC7 I was doing.....I junked that one because the kit was so badly twisted? and I just couldn't continue with that chassis....I'll just get another one ;D I'm currently using the twisted penske chassis in a 1978 Parnelli conversion research and development project.

I've done a little more to this one....mostly to the roll bar area. The PC7's have a totally different design around that area than the PC6's. The hardest part was to come up with a way to install a heat rest so that it could be taken off, for a detachable cowling/engine cover. I didn't want a curbside. #1 Making the head rest I glued three square sticks of plastic together. Then sculpted it out with the low grit file. #2 Dilling the head rest Using a 0.052 drill bit. I drilled out the back half of the head rest. After drilling, glue in a 3/64" plastic rod. This will be used as the support rod. #3 Notching and drilling the engine cover Drill another 0.052 hole....so the head rest can be attached. Notch out the center so the back end of the head rest can be snugly fitted in. #4 Add the fins on the back off the roll bar. The roll bar supports will just be glued on the bottom of the fins. #5 check Done... That looks about right.

I love watching all of us do these WIPs. Back in the 80's I was part of a group of modelers that would get together occasionally and bring our finished and WIP cars. Very enjoyable. This is a close second to that fun. Thanks Calvin and all that have contributed to the Off-Season Build. Such fun!

Here is a few tricks to help those working on PC-6'sIn order to make the engine cover fit and make the engine actually connected to the tank, there is some stuff that needs to go.... For example, after you put your engine together, sand off the pegs on the front...... Then get rid of that terrible plastic lip that outlines, just sand it out, Basically clean it flat out in the center part of the back tub. After that your engine will fit beautifully, unlike before it would of been way to high and the cam cover brackets wouldn't even come close to holding on. Plus your engine cover should theoretically fit nice and snug. I would also recommend keeping the engine and rear end separate tel' you are ready to put the car together for good...it'll give some good leeway for leveling out the car correctly. Your have to use your measuring skills with this kit because there is really no reference to go off of

This build has drug on way to long....Im going to finish it up! Yesterday I painted it and I just put the Indycals on! I have a lot of touch ups to do I messed up and forgot the fuel hole/valve before painting! So I had to painstakingly dill it out, I'll have to touch it up. Maybe this is a kiss of death?.....hummmm?.....have I been jinxed? ;D LOL Also note the Blue is lighter in person than in this pic. I used TS44 Its not going to be my cleanest build but, it'll be OK....I guess?

Jordan & Calvin.....
I agree 100%. A very good friend of mine calls it, The several moods of model building of Russ...
1. This looks like crap! It sucks!!!!....2. I'm sorry I ever started this thing! .....3. It's not too bad.....4. It's okay......to finally 5. It turned out pretty good!
We are all, our own worst and harshest critics after all. If it pleases you, it will please others. Looks good to me Calvin...How many others are out there trying to build it?
Best to you!

Well, I claim it as done. I don't know of too many PC-7 models out there. It might not be the cleanest build, but its one of the more unique ones Ive done, along with my Pennzoil Lola. My paint lines kinda sucked this time I didn't get it masked as good. Besides Dragging on for half a year and screwing up.....a lot. I'm happy to have a PC-7. When I do my 1981 Pancho Carter Alex Foods PC7 I'll be more on track. I know what to do now. But on every build I do learn something and the learning moment for this build is, Keep with it 'tel its done....less mistakes happen when your thinking about the project at hand, continuously. Thank you for the support guys!

They both look great, thanks for the WIP and the tips on the PC 6. I do have two questions, did you have any trouble with the windshields on either car? I broke one years ago trying to get it to fit my 79 winner. My other question is, does anyone know if you can heat one of these windshields and make it fit? Thanks

I do have two questions, did you have any trouble with the windshields on either car? I broke one years ago trying to get it to fit my 79 winner. Yes I did have some trouble with the windscreen, I had to kinda squeeze it into place, then I took the Clear glue and some objects to hold it down, 'tel the glue held. But the PC7 was worse, since I glued the cowling differently....so that it would fit over the fuel tank better, which subsequently messes up the windscreen fit somewhat. Only when I'm totally desperate that I'll take that risk.....It will work but......well..... there is more that goes against you on it, than for you when you start putting heat on a clear part. Thats a tough deal.

Awesome job on this build!! I love the color of blue but when I see it with just white, it reminds me too much of a Toronto Maple Leafs uniform.
