I just found this on the H.A.M.B. board under the thread of old NASCAR photos: The included text explains why it was under NASCAR: "Art Malone drove the "Mad Dog IV" shown here at Bristol Speedway, to a new closed-course world record of 181.561 mph at the Daytona Speedway in 1961. Bill France had posted a $10,000 reward to the first person to crack 180 mph after a death caused USAC to remove Daytona from their schedule. Builder Bob Osiecki took an Indy car and a supercharged fuel injected 413 Chrysler bored to 450 cu in producing 800 hp on alcohol to do it. Six other drivers including NASCAR great's Curtis Turner and Buck Baker tried their hands before Malone got behind the wheel. Several blown engines and many shredded tires later Malone ran an estimated 226 mph on the straights and 170 mph in the turns to circle the track in 49.59 seconds. It cost Osiecki $35,000 to win the $10,000 of which Malone got $2500!" Now that is even more hairy than the Hemi powered Indy roadsters! The side canards reminds me of the Opel rocket car. Wouldn't a model of this on the contest table cause some head scratching? ;D Dan Z

Dang! That looks scarier than Smokey's side-car racer. POWer!
I did notice that the #52 car has the same style of numbers and paint scheme as Braber's BT12 in 1964.

Leave it to an Old Dragster Pilot like Art Malone to do something as crazy as this!!! You look close this is a Kurtis Chassis and can easily be build by using and old Monogram Kurtis kit.....and a scale Hemi.....interesting idea though.
As for the John Zink Trackburner.....this was later converted to have a turbine engine in it and was driven by Dan Gurney and Duane Carter...amoungst others.
Best to you!
