While reviving this thread, I would like to see if we can compile a comprehensive list of all the resin kits by all of the different casters...both current and OOP...Interested?
Respectfully,
Bill

Bill,
Yes. Will you be taking a first shot at this? Afterwards, we can fill in with anything you don't list. Do we want to also list the vacu-formed kits as well?

The problem with Perry's Resin on the Front Motor stuff is that the molds need work to get up to Perry's quality and he's reluctant to release ANYTHING under the Perry's name that are of lesser quality. Hi Pat, Sorry for being late, here. Tell ol' "what's his name" ( ;D ) that he should go ahead and pour all he can from those molds (figuratively speaking), drop the price and advertise as such. A lesson in Business 101 is it's better to make a few hundred dollars than none at all........... I have seen this with all kind of vendors and shop owners. They would rather die holding on to something than sell it for less than what they *think* it's worth. A lot of them do not realize that a product is only *worth* what someone else will pay for it. Not saying that Perry is doing that, but I believe everyone in the market for the models he has the molds for will realize that the *quality* might not be up to his *standards*, but will happily pay for them anyway. Tell Perry to sell the stuff under a different product line sheez! Someone get me a '91 Penske!! lol BTW, if we're going to put together a comprehensive list of resin and vacuform IndyCars then why not throw in the kits - there are just a few dozen of them... much less than the number of resin kits. Ok, Here is a start. I only build 500 winners so here is Bill's kit for them. I do know Bill has the 82, 83, 84 and the '91 in progress. I did some of the work on the masters for the 82, 83, and '91. So they should be coming sometime.

Honestly, I can't even take good aim at compiling this list much less shoot at it! I only know of a dozen or so resin kits, so I was actually hoping to be educated further on the subject... The following are the only resin casters I have heard of: Lance Sellers Bill Jorgensen Chris Etzel Gary Doucette (Front Motor)? the Vacuform guy Norm Veber(sic)@ R&M of Maryland (does some tires for open wheel) Bill H

Ditto on the early '80s cars. Geez, between all the great stuff Lance and Bill have coming and Lance doing the new tires I need to get a second job!

Now that Randy from Perry's runs a hobby shop, even LESS will be coming from the resin line. Sorry, guys. --EDIT-- I've e-mailed him again today asking about the availability of the molds of the Front Motor stuff. Stay tuned.

What is a typical and fair price to pay for one of these kits?

|
Post by slidinsideways on Jun 22, 2008 17:19:20 GMT -5
Stonecold, It seems like they range from about 40 bucks or so for a trans-kit to a bit over a hundred for a complete kit depending on the complexity of it. An average seems then to be about 70 dollars or so.

I didn't think Bill did a 2000 G-Force. Etzel did a really nice kit of course and Bill's been selling a knock-off of the Etzel kit but he's called it a Phantom Resin kit. I'd figured that wasn't his work, but I am not sure.
Also, I don't remember him ever doing a '68. This one could have been before my time, unlike the 2000 G-Force. All I've ever seen for the '68 is the MPC Rislone and the Maryland recast of the engine for the MPC Gurney kit.

Hey Jordan, just pulled a Bill Jorgensen Resin Cars price sheet from 1993 out of my files! Dot matrix printing and all! He lists a '68 Eagle multi-peice body with outer wheel halves for $20.00! This was before the plastic re-issues became common so I'm guessing he sold a few. He also listed an Offy engine kit. FWIW - Brian

Good information - thanks!! It was before my time ;D wish he'd consider selling that Offy again.

The weird nose is a 1970 Eagle which was owned by Pat Patrick and stretched by Don Brown. This was Swedes '72 rookie ride and is often referred to as the "tape dispenser" car. Dan kind of missed the boat with the customer car that year. Patrick soldiered on with his after hiring Don "the prince of darkness" Brown to modify them How did you come across the kit? Thanks for the background on this car. "Tape Dispenser" ... thats a pretty good description of what it looks like. It sort of looks like someone forgot to put the nose on the car. I'll take a picture and post it tonight. I think its one of Bill's cars. I found it on Ebay a few yeas ago. I remember that there were a few listed on and off for a few years. There are no decals and you need a donor car for all the small bits and pieces. Not sure what I'll ever do with it, but it was such an ugly beast that I had to bid on it. I modified the list (above) to reflect this information

That Menarded Lola was a '95/'96 as '97 was the first year of the IRL chassis and non-turbo V8s. I watched that auction... did I bid on it? I don't remember but I remember not winning it - lol. Nice car! Going to do a Tony Stewart car or Scott Brayton - there are other options but not as good options IMHO.
That would be a cool car to do a short run of.... (hint, hint)

I looked up the Antares in the book "Indianapolis 500 Chronicle" by Rick Popely. There was a 1972 "computer designed" car called the Antares driven by Roger Mcluskey #14. I think the nose on the Swede Savage Eagle nose was also referred to as an Antares design. It also looks like Johnny Rutherford drove a Brabham #18 chassis with a nose that looks a lot like the Savage Eagle/Antares. Both of these were fielded by Michner-Patrick racing.
