My NASCAR Factory

I know many do not favor NASCAR but many years ago Monogram NASCAR kits were available for very low prices and many entered into my unbuilt kit collection. I am now retired and on a fixed income, so it is time for me to begin building the kits in that collection to build up modeling skills that have been lost because of inactivity. The church I attend started a weekly craft day. I found that I can bring these kits to Craft day. Basic assembly can be done very quickly and efficiently. Final painting and detailing done. What follows are some progress photos...



One day's work. Two 1989 to 1993 Thunderbird's. Basic chassis and body assembly completed.

My usual time on Tuesday ia about 4 hours but sometimes I am motivated to do more..





These five kits were assembled in about 6 hours time

I was able to put primer coat on four of them before I went home using spray cans out in the church parking lot..

The assembly line continues at home with final paint and decals..

Again these are not to be contest winners but models to have fun building and revive my modeling skills. A good example was this body on a Pontiac Grand Prix...

That this body is warped is an understatement..

I also have a few of the AMT NASCAR kits. This Craftsman truck kit after about 2 hours of assembly...

I also have never worked with resin before. I purchased this Chimmneyville resin body for a 1980 Chevy Caprice many years ago. Of course it is fatally flawed so this made a great choice for my NASCAR factory so I could learn to work with resin. It says to use a Monogram Buick kit for the chassis. I have Buick kits but also found a Lumina kit that had a chassis but no body. I decided to see if I could make this work...









Much more work to do before this crosses the finish line. Plan is to make the Rusty Wallace Caprice.

Wow!! That is one heck of an assembly line. And you’re doing some fantastic work. Your paint and decals are excellent. I enjoy these old monogram kits myself and they’re still usually priced right. Great job!

I really like the lineup. Looks like a bunch of cool cars. What is the Silverado going to be? Looking forward to Rusty's debut Penske Caprice!!

Hey Jordan! Thanks for the kind words! Planning to use the kit decals on the Silverado. The AMT kits are 1/25 scale. Not sure how well 1/24 scale decals would do.
