Good job test fitting, this kit can be a bit of a nightmare to get fitting up right.

Did some reading on using TS-51 as primary paint. Decided it needed to be on a flat black base.

Finally ready for some TS-51. This is the first time I have tried using Tamiya spray cans. I am pleased with the result- Decals should be next, I hope. I do have an ARM photo-etched grille for this project. Also have the updated wheels and tires. I may actually complete a project! Still lots to do, but this is further than I have ever gotten before on one of these! Tim

You’re doing great with this one! That color looks really excellent on there. Can’t wait to see it with the decals.

Amazing job!
I'm actually going to be coming out with the kurtis upgrade either tonight or tomorrow.
Unfortunately, I can't seem to find my WIP pictures I took for my instructions 🫣 *facepalm*
The kit is so self explanatory that who really needs instructions?

Did some reading on using TS-51 as primary paint. Decided it needed to be on a flat black base. If you spray that blue over a black base, every coat will be a lighter colour. Over a light grey base, every coat is a darker colour. Very difficult colour to paint.
I like how yours turned out, I love anything in dark blue!

Hey there Artic Wolf! Thanks for the tip on TS-51. The only thing I saw was a pair of spoons. One with a gray base and one with a black base. I knew I needed a darker blue. This is only one coat and is the first time I have ever used Tamiya spray cans. I need to get some spoons and experiment myself. Thanks for the suggestions.

Tim Tamiya spray cans are 90% of what I use (I don't airbrush).
The blues and reds have a degree of transparency, so the more coats you apply the more the colour changes. Not an issue if you spray everything all at once, but if you paint the parts separately it's damn near impossible to get them all to match. For dark blues I use TS15 as a base coat, light blues just grey primer. It's all experiment 'til you find what works for you.

It is finally time to put the decals on! I had never used Indycals before. They are great!!! The next step in the process is to install the photoetch grille from ARM. I am doing this, and it has been a learning experience so far! It will get installed. I have ordered another decal sheet to make some repairs from the installation of the grille. Wish me luck!!

I agree! Big fan of the Indycals ‘cals. Beautiful job!! That looks really nice!! One of the nicest looking paint schemes ever, in my own humble option.

I really like these old monochromatic color schemes. The Belanger cars ran a variation of this, yellow or gold, for several years. This is one of the best and most recognizable. Thanks to you for building this and sharing it. Tony Bettenhausen drove this car at Indy in 1956 starting 5th but crashed late in the race. Jim
