Anybody got any good reference pics? Particularly from Indy? Even more particularly of the rear wing endplate?

If not, there are only 2 pictures of the car (qualifying pix and 1 from the race). If you don't have this book I can scan these 2 for you. BTW... I notice that Luyendyk's car had a red right front wing during the race. RussD

Yeah I have Hungness and I can see enough to see a strange marking on the wingplate, but not enough to decipher it. I did notice that the kit decals don't seem to represent any incarnation of the car that I've seen. They look more like the 1989 season markings, but even so, they're still not quite right.

It is unusual. Looks like 'Ring 76ers' or something like that. The symbol above it is almost like a set of wings. No one else in the field has this marking (that I can tell). RussD

It was very close to the '88 car, only it was #9. Russ, the reason that car had a red front wing on during the race was because Luyendyk rammed Ludwig Heimrath Jr from behind and needed to have a new wing put on. On the ABC coverage, it was pretty funny hearing Sam Posey crying out, "Oh, Sullivan!!" as Danny had to dodge the crash at the entrance to pit lane. That was also the first 500 I had attended, and there were a lot of cautions.

Yes I'm redoing it, but only the 88 version for now. But without that mystery emblem on the rear wing plate it's going to be iffy.

If memory serves me right, I believe that most of the AMT 1988 Lolas, Marchs and Penskes were modeled from the 1988 Michigan 500.

Paul Erlendson But they sure didn't take the markings from that race... I found a couple good reference pics from MIS and the markings are totally different than the kit decals. Unfortunately it doesn't have the marking I need.

Two things: First, Michael, send me the photo you need identified. I worked on that car in 1988 and 1989 and I'll get it sorted. Secondly, Simon cars always looked different on race day, especially at Indy, because of last minute associate sponsor deals. I respectfully suggest that you make the decal sheet(s) from Indy and consider that issue. THANKS!

If you don't have it I'll scan it and send it to you, but it won't be until much later tonight. I'm definitely doing the sheet as the Indy livery. Michael, that is a clothing line called "Bush Pilot". I believe they are now defunct but I have an example of their logo. One of the weekend guys was a sales rep for them and he supplied the gear with a lot of gear. I'll get back with you.

If you know Andy, Lance or Brenda at Free Lance Graphics in Indy, they did the decals back in the day. Perhaps they could score the logo for you also. I have a call in to Andy but he is hard to get hold of. Kind of a plan B. I'll get the logo.

Unfortunately I don't know them. Even a picture of the logo that shows what it looks like would help, I have a pretty good idea to begin with now that I know the brand. I did a google search for the logo, but it only brought up an x-rated version, LOL.

You will have it tomorrow at the latest. I also have several other photos which I can scan and forward to you. I remember that car changed almost daily up until race day.

The red right front wing was one that was replaced near the midway point when Arie and Ludwig Heimrath touched on a restart. Bent the steering arm too. The car started the race with a black winglet.

Provimi Lola decals will be available this weekend - this is a complete redesign from the kit decals which are incredibly inaccurate. My sheet will replicate Indy 1988 race day markings. Big thanks to SWT500 for his help with reference material!!!

Hi Mike,
Is there any chance you could add a number 9 to the sheet to have the option of doing the '89 car as well.
Just an idea, Thanks, Mike

Oh baby!! I've been hoping for these for a long time. You can count on an order from me. I might as well order a few other sheets while I'm at it. I have a request that I'll send you in a personal message, either here or facebook. In any case, thanks Mike.

Beautiful Michael. But I have to ask; How did you get that car done so fast with the new decals? Did you just take the old ones off and re-decal with the new ones? In any case, I like them and you should look for my order this weekend. Big thanks to you.

Ah, a little different decal arrangement than from the left side and it looks like I need to add a white tire mfg marking on the sheet. Definitely a race day shot. Looks like pre-race though as Arie is not in the car, the belt is draped over the cockpit and it still has the black front wing.
