Hello, Just finished up the 1961 Federal Engineering Kurtis driven by Norm Hall. I used the Monogram Kurtis kit with some modifications, including using Calvin's injector stacks and fuel tank. Decals were made by Gary Sleeper and they look perfect!. The roll bar is hand made, and was a real pain to do. Not sure of an easier way to do it. I used metal rods I got from the hobby store and it did the job, but it was still a hassle. Thanks to Walt for sharing the drawings of the car with me so I could figure out how the exhaust looked on this car (there are no photos of the right side!). As for the real car, Norm drove the 1956 Kurtis, the oldest car in the field I believe, to an impressive 10th after starting on the last row. It showed that the car, despite being ancient, was still incredibly reliable. This was Norm's first of two starts at IMS, his second came in 1964 and ended on the second lap, as he was caught up in the Sachs-McDonald crash.

Very nice! It's amazing the amount of cars you can build with the Monogram roadster.

Very nice! It's amazing the amount of cars you can build with the Monogram roadster. They were the the car to have at Indy before AJ Watson tried his hand at making one. This car was raced by Chuck Hulse in 1962, which is absolutely crazy to think about. Not sure why the Federal Engineering team insisted on running this old car for so long!
