I have the white and I have some Tamiya TS-8 Italian red that I think would look good but there’s so many blue choices.

I USED TAMIYA TS50 MICA BLUE ON MINE.

Mica blue is metallic. I'm sure it looks great, but it wasn't metallic

TS 50 does look like the closest shade…Michael what Tamiya color would you use if you had too? Looking at some of these color comparison pictures with painted spoons really doesn’t help with the cap color being so far off of the actual color being sprayed.

Got a chance today to work on this…got the metal work done now it’s time for some filler.

After looking at this, I wasn’t happy with the rear wheel spacing so I moved the gearbox up a bit…now it’s just right.

To me Mica Blue is more of a pearl as there isn't a lot of metallic in it. Especially after wet sanded. To me it was the closest match to the real thing and it did look great. To each his own.

Yeah I’m on fence with this…I also think the shade looks closer….I’ll just order a can of Mica Blue and do some test pieces.

First coat of primer.

Sprayed the white and now I’ll let it harden up for a week before I even start to tape up and spray the red and blue bits. But overall it looks nice and glassy.

Still need to add some small details but it’s pretty much done. This one definitely challenged my masking skills. Not sure how it happened but lost some white paint when I was removing my fine line. I’m not sure how to get paint to stick to this type of metal. It’s crazy how easy it lifts off. Tried etching primer and all. Oh well it still looks good if you squint and make your eyes go out of focus a bit… lol

It was just brought to my attention that the “WAVEPHORE” decals are facing the wrong way on the front wings. Unfortunately I pulled a rookie mistake and looked at this particular picture from the IMS museum instead of a race day photo when I applied them. I guess I could always buy another decal sheet. Plus I need another camera decal for the right side.

This is outstanding work. Wouldn’t change a thing. No one will ever know about the front wing decals. I sure didn’t. Risk vs reward. Never point out the mistakes you see. Most won’t notice them and even if they do, dare them to do it better then.

Joe...I agree with Schix...I would not change a thing. That decal is facing the correct way...according to the pic you showed. Leave it like it is...it looks GREAT!
