First off I haven't posted much for a while but I have been busy with many projects. Secondly I feel a bit odd posting this subject strait after Lance's post and the sad info that he cannot locate the model of this car that he was working on. Surely it will turn up. And it is with Lance's help that I could initially embark on this project. That and specific posts on a 1/25th build that Calvin did some time ago. Again. Not the norm for the forum but again, It is all down to what I have absorbed from it and all the builds and knowledge that fills these halls. This is being built so I can take part in an American themed slot car event here in the UK. Indycars, CanAms and TransAms. Its all pre 1974 themed which is well out of my comfort zone as I am a late 70's/80s nut. But there is nowhere else save at home to run anything Indycar related over here for now. This is for the rear engined section. I may embark on doing a 1957 Sumar for the front engined section. Let the pictures do the talking. Start with inter-grating the generic slot chassis/engine/gearbox unit to the floor plan and go from there. All done with styrene. Couple of bitz I know are off but cracking on with it. I have 95% of the decals I need now thanks to Indycals and a couple of sources here. Those that know will see I am going for the Unser car which I prefer over the Andretti or Leonard car. Post the finished thing when I can get round to it. Like I keep saying. I know it is not the norm for this site and it does go on a dedicated slot car forum. But just wanted to let you chaps know again what you have inspired in me.

Very nice indeed! All the details behind the driver makes it look like not-a-slot car. The rest of your competitors won’t know what hit them!

Maybe slot cars aren’t the norm but your projects involve more work and modeling skills than any of the kits I ever stick together. Another fantastic looking machine. Keep posting them here!

Man...that's a slot car? If I hadn't seen the build pics, I would've never known. GREAT build. Looking forward to the completed pics of this cool car.

Seeing that No11 of Andretti almost makes me want to build a second one! But I have a Lola T332 body shell to do as well which I will do as Mario's 1975 Viceroy mount.
All the subtle differences in almost every pic I see. The Firestone logo at the front below the naca duct.
Just ordered the Indy Cars of the 70s book I did not know had been published. Hopefully that will give me better ref of the engine/gearbox layouts for future builds rather than just eyeballing it from the few pics I can find.

Great work! Maybe you could do a third one in the Joe Leonard livery.

If I have this right the car had a slightly longer nose and no big airbox at the back by the end of 1973. I have considered the Leonard colours on that version. Something other than Viceroy colours.
Then I found out about Jan Opperman and his run in the evolved spec car in 1974 (?). Number 51 car I believe. Hoping that book comes through soon so I can see more and decide. Indy Cars of the 70s. Might be better than the few bitz found on the internet.
And if anyone is unaware of it. That openwheel33.com liveries archive pic section is mega. But if there is one thing I have picked up on is the pics might not be the race day livery.

Well. Dun for the most part. Helmet to do as I am waiting for a better option to arrive where you can see the face behind a visor rather than just tinting the visor and cheating! Cannot find wheels and tires at the correct 1973 Indycar scale size so proportion slightly off. Car looks a bit higher than it should. All F1 proportions here. Silly me. Only ever ordered Andretti decals for my other projects so no driver name for now. Annoyed I made the numbers a tad bolder than they should be. But loaded as much detail as I could. Phase 2 means now setting the chassis and tires up for competition. Lance. Thank you. Book arrived so without letting the cat outta the bag I will next look at the 1970 oval option..... Rocky Mountain 150 video doesn't show enough really. But have to get a CanAm Shadow DN2 done first for the summer meeting and got the 1957 Sumar Special coming. Pics from mobile so sorry for the lack of quality there. Joe

Joe, she looks really good. Shows what can be done with simple plastic sheet to make a complex race car body. Inspiring!

That really looks GREAT, Joe. Slot cars didn't EVEN come close to looking that good when I was involved back in the 60's
