Thank you so much everyone on your interest and encouragement during this build. It has been some time since I really participated in the Open Wheel Forum. No real reason other than life getting in the way and modeling many other subjects not in the open wheel spectrum. Rest assured that I'm always lurking even when I'm building something without fenders. It also seems like it's been a long time coming (at least for me) but the 36 Auto Union is ready for her final reveal. I could continue to drag out the thread on every minute detail about the flag man, the base, the final details of the build, why I chose the black # 4 versus the red #22 provided in the kit, or several other last step or items; but I will let the images do the talking this time. Here is how the car looked after rubber was mounted on all four corners and final details added under the front bonnet. This provides a good view of the front suspension and grill. The thin grill spokes were black plastic that was highlighted with a silver permanent marker. Here is the view that most every other racer saw when competing against it. You can also see that the seam through the body center is G-O-N-E. In this photo you can see the determination on the drivers face, a man on a mission. This is the flag man who was once a modern F1 team manager. I think the rather easy conversion turned out really neat (IMHO). And these are some neat photos at the family reunion, or should I say Family Auto-re-Union. Distance cousins, but you can see the family DNA. The display base after the remaining layers and details were added then the routed edges painted black. This is my completed 1/20 1936 Auto Union molded by Revival. If you have followed the whole thread you will know the amount of scratch building, modifying, and build issues associated with this kit. Because of the mixed media, poor fit issues, difficult instructions, and in some cases extremely small parts, I would only recommend this kit to veteran builders experienced with older die-cast kits, and someone who wants to have a challenge. Nuff said, here it is: Thanks to everyone who pushed and encouraged me through this build. Also, thanks to everyone who followed and commented during the process. I believe this is going to be my last Revival build, but at least it came out some what presentable (IMHO). As always, your critique, remarks, and constructive criticism are always welcome. Rest assured you will see me building here again as I have at least 8 or the Tamiya 1/12 kits along with numerous 1/24, 1/20, and even 1/16 open wheel racers to build in Indy, F1, NHRA, and other series. I agree with everything Gary said, Ben! A joy to follow along with and what a result. The car looks great by itself and I love the photos with its relatives. And that base is just perfect. Just a wonderful build all around. Thanks for sharing.

Sorry guys! German car, German driver--I thought a German compliment would be appropriate. I just forgot to translate: "Outstanding, indeed"

FROM GARY DAVIS: Ben...you did and OUTSTANDING job on the Kit and the DIO! It is (and was) a pure pleasure to watch along with your builds. Very inspiring for sure.
Thanks Gary! It's always nice to read your comments. Your comment is exactly why I wanted to post the build here and is the highest praise I could ever hope for. Thanks so much for following along.
FROM KAYEDEHART5: Ben...you did and OUTSTANDING job on the Kit and the DIO! It is (and was) a pure pleasure to watch along with your builds. Very inspiring for sure.
Thank you Kyle, and I'm glad you followed along. While I never build to receive accolades, being an inspiration to anyone is considered the highest praise in my book.
FROM ALWAYSINDY: Ben: This needs to be on display at Audi World Headquarters! It is museum quality and a work of art. The figures are extremely well done. Congrats on this build.
Wow Tim, not sure about all that, but thanks none the less. I guess every builder knows all the warts and goals missed in thier builds, but I'm glad to see even if I feel I may have left something on the table that it still achieved a standard of appreciation outside my own eyes.
FROM RACERMAGIC: I'd agree with that, fwiw. Just amazing talent. On this board. Ben, congrats on an incredible build. Thank you soooo much for sharing.
Thank you, I am genuinely humbled to be considered anything other than your average modeler. I really enjoy sharing my modeling builds to anyone who wants to read them. I think that is the joy of participating in this and other modeling forums, to share the builds and eventually the joy.
FROM PJE: Outstanding! Just amazing work. You have taught me a ton about this car. I certainly will be rereading this thread many times in the future.
Thanks bunches Paul. This car first caught my attention with the early rear engine and dually wheels. As I researched it for build authenticity I also grown more appreciative of the real cars design, it's drivers, and thier achievements. I hoped by sharing some of my findings I could bring that same interest and appreciation to other modelers.
FROM ALTERRENNER: In der Tat hervorragend! Sorry guys! German car, German driver--I thought a German compliment would be appropriate. I just forgot to translate: "Outstanding, indeed"
You caught me off guard with the German response but after a minute I knew what you were saying. My Mom was born in Germany in 1930, survived the war, and immigrated to America in 1958. When growing up I blew my chance to learn German as a second language because of being a stupid farm boy who never thought I would need it, only later to be assigned in West Germany in the 80's while serving in the Army. Regardless, anyway you say it, thanks for the kind words.
FROM INDY ADMINISTRATOR: Ben, that is a stunning looking monster! Love the figure work in addition to the TLC put into the car. I loved all of the detail you gave along the way.
And thank you for your comments through the build which helped motivate me to the end. After decades of building out of the box, I started enjoying the research and scratch building beginning in the 80's. Since then it seems I can never just build anything without adding something to it. I guess you can say that is how I make mine unique for me; the same kit as somebody else... just different.
Up next I begin the build of the Arado Ar 196 Seaplane used by Germany in WW2. It's made by Revell in 1/32 scale. If you all don't mind I will share the final results in the appropriate subject within the forum when it's done. Till then, thanks again for following along and your beautiful responses.
