The Mount Rushmore of drivers memorialized by the Mount Rushmore of models by the Michaelangelo of Indycars.
Tough choice of drives for AJ, Tim!🤔

A question…what is MISSING on this model, as well as the real car?

Didn't some teams take them off for qualifying?

Dan is correct! NO mirrors in any photos, race or qualifying…I have no idea why A J would do that… Tim

Dan is correct! NO mirrors in any photos, race or qualifying…I have no idea why A J would do that… Tim There are comments from the era that as there were no other cars on the track during qualifying, you could leave off the mirrors to reduce drag. I find that rather humourous in that with the hung on external tanks, protruding filler caps, various sticking up coolers etc the parasitic drag must have been enormous, I doubt 2 mirrors would have mattered.
A more plausible explanation would be that the mechanic simply didn't bother bolting them on, as AJ never looked in them anyway.

Two things on this pic, 1 . No Engine Cover? Must be pre-race photo. Photo by my friend Bob Tronolone, He gave me a rare John Day, Full Detail, Lotus 18 1/43 Metal kit ( beautiful ) that I have not built, yet. Super nice guy that has been all over the world taking photos of Indy, F-1 and just about any kind of racing . He had a thing where he would build a model, detailing it as much as he could, then photograph it and transfer the photo on to another of the track and race also taken on a specific day or race. I never did get see one done but I heard they were very nicely done. I gave him a Cox Ferrari 158 Static Slot car body/full kit. extremely rare, to use this way. If you click the Revs link look at some of Bob's work as there are 3,365 pics or 63 pages of it just on Foyt. Chris
