in 1/32nd again..... Whilst I await the next instalment on that mega Ferrari 126 C2 I thought I would share this briefly. After doing a 1979 Eagle Indycar I was struck at the similarity of the basic layout between that and the 1978 Williams F1 car. Scratch built apart from the rear end and the chassis. Just a quicky so no long ramble. Kinda like a commercial break from our regular programming! Started off like this. To this. And ended up like this. Not seen this car on the forum before so hope it proves of some interest. Keep well all. Joe

Very nice indeed! A lot of your builds are from my favorite era- less aero, more design variation. Thanks for sharing.

Chaps Hope all well. Adding on here rather than starting something new given it is all related. Some may have seen another thread in a similar vein but am taking a breather from sorting out another couple of 1/32 USAC cars from 1979 mainly because I will be repeating what I have already done albeit in different colours. Meantime I have jumped into doing more back of the grid cars from F1 in 1978. The top one is supposed to be a Hesketh 308E. Totally eyeballed and scratch built in styrene. Intend to do the Eddie Cheever car from the 1978 South African GP. The bottom one is a Surtees TS20 modded from a solid 1976 TS19 slot body. Scary thing about the TS20 is that the genius that cast the TS19 has offered to cast this in resin! I can get on and do the variants from 1978 and possibly a 1979 Gordon Smiley wing car version. Still. A big step for me even if I am not pouring the rubber and the resin.... Just hope its viable. Got a few more from that year that I want to get done. Hope you chaps do not mind me adding them on to this one thread over time. Small breaks in between the big tasty kits being built coming on here. Gonna be a long process so will be back at some point in the future with hopefully these as finished runners and maybe some other long forgotten cars.

Your builds are very amazing. I always liked the cars in the back of the grid in '60s and '70s

Quickie update on the Hesketh before it sits quietly waiting for me to get back from starting to get back to normal! Big family birthday weekender coming up and a gig on Monday night rescheduled from last year. Off to see Echo and the Bunneymen (who?). But given my current 1978 kick have been listening to the first Dire Straits album whilst working on it. Have artworked the decals and waiting for a supply of 1970s spec front wheels/tires to arrive. Hope to get it done in a week or so.

Hello chaps I have finished this Hesketh with thoughts of maybe doing the one from 1977 in the future. Eddie Cheever's debut GP car. South African GP 1978. I have picked up so much from this forum on building that I can tell you with these I do not put in a kinda standard for slot cars front axle across the front thru the nose. Do the wishbones and steering rods the way I learnt from building the 1/25th models put out by Calvin and kevin at Silvercity. Do not do any club racing so my fronts do not have to touch the track. My approach is to build a halfway decent model that happens to have a slot car capability. Anyone wanting to see more of this obscure thing running can watch the 1978 International Trophy highlights on youtube No spoilers but there were two of these things in that particular race. And it ended up with a real surprise winner....

Awesome work on these obscure cars. Love the look of this one. I also think it’s really cool how you make them work as slot cars. Very interesting to follow along with for me as I’ve never attempted anything like it.

Another mega 1/12th build featuring on the forum. loving it. Whilst I await an update here is quick run thru my latest project linked to that Williams. Make it quick. Took a Surtees TS 19 slot body and converted to a TS20 from 1978. Sent it off to the chap who does so many wonderful slot bodies to cast for me. Not happy duplicating a build and wanted to eventually do three versions of this. He then froze it in Carbonite and worked his magic like Calvin and Lance and Kevin do. Back it came to me and I have progressed two versions of the car. Do some detail work then mount the chassis and engine components and made sure it was a runner before painting. Going to sort out the Rupert Keegan car from Jarama race in Spain and the Vittorio Brambilla car from the Brands Hatch race in England. All the guys and girls on the slot car forum I dabble with do not know about this yet. Have agreed it should be made available to whoever wants it to do their own thing with. Decals being worked up by a man who can as well. Got a few days off so hoping to share the finished items soon.

Progress on this particular project. The decals have been proofed and all the bitz are ready to go on once liveried. This thing only ran for two thirds of a season in two configurations. Last of the World Championship GP Surtees entries. There is one other version of this that ran the year after in the Aurora British F1 championship. A Gordon Smiley driven wing car variant that won at the last round at Silverstone. Might explore that later once these are done.

To be honest I am more than happy to get what I manage to do out there. Feels a bit like giving something back after taking so much knowledge and applying it to something I really wanted to get done. Thing about our place is there is no where for me to start thinking about casting resin meself. Have considered it. But no space and no time really. But have been kinda lucky with my time having taken a week of owed leave whilst the family were still working. Only say lucky coz I could spend time on these. Next leave we are off on to the continent to watch some racing! Bin too long. Had so much time I could work on something else in the same vein. This one a one off coz its not entirely accurate. But all the same. Lets see if you guys tell me what it is? If you get it then I may have done something right.

Ha! No guesses. Can't be any good a repro then! Or it is just too obscure a subject. Once the TS20's are done I will move this last one on. Just gotta make sure the Japanese logos on it are correctly artworked for the decal paper printing.

Yay for Hurtubise!
Going for the 1977 Ke009 number 51 that lasted all of one lap and a half at the Japanese GP. 52 made it to the finish. Say more about it when I get it done. Lotta of decal art working to do on that one but the side elevation illustration helps allot! Thanks!
Was gonna drop a pic of the actual car in but now Imgur is having a wobbly......

Jordan to the rescue! Cheers mate! Imgur still throwing a wobbly but am on it. Looking at that side view I do not think I have the nose quite right but think that is a consequence of having to accommodate a guide blade and mount under the nose.... Me thinks the body might be a tad higher/taller than it should be. Be a while before I really see it liveried as the Surtees project nears its end for 'launch'. Meantime. Not trying to start a scale revolution here but stumbled across these. www.ebay.com/sch/geodies/m.html?item=194736928254&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.m3561.l2562Perhaps those with more knowledge could tell me their verdict on the Indy racers listed here.? Perhaps the creator is a member in this site....

Finished these just in time to settle down and watch the F1 and Indycars. Vittorio Brambilla and Kevin Keegan 1978 Surtees TS 20s. Do not see these cars available at 1/43rd much anymore and a few still out there at 1/20th. These 1/32 shells are available from a chap monikered 'DNQ' on 'slotforum'. If anyone wants one and and cannot get thru that way then do let me know and I will see what I can sort out. I am in the UK so do consider that. Think postage is more than the shell and parts and it won't happen overnight as they are cast to order then have to get to me.
