Just a small update. While I'm waiting I had to straighten out the floor tray of the car. To do this I slowly heat up the part in hot water. Well I didn't have a big enough pot so I used the slow cooker. Stewed Ferrari. I managed to get it sitting flat on the desk top, no rocking. Then paint and a hell of a fight to get it past the rear suspension without breaking anything, but it's now screwed (yes, screwed!) in place. After a similar but less drastic treatment of the body shell, voila, it fits nicely. Hopefully it's de-stressed enough that it all stays that way.
Now I can move on to paint the body shell.
cheers
Paul

Really loving this WIP.
Cooking the plastic. Ingenious. Bit like doing carbon fibre!
Thought about doing one for a long time but never had the bottle.
Great work. Looking splendid.

Nice job on fixing those issues. A lot of work going into this one! I’ll have to keep crockpot formula cars in mind if I ever run into anything that needs straightening. Lol!

Man...another way to use the Crock Pot. "What's for Dinner Honey?" "A :DFerrari chassis plate."...LOL Way to cool Paul. I have a model club buddy who does a lot of metal figures using oil paints. To dry them he uses a crock pot. A multi use piece of cookware, but I recommend buying one for your model room and not sneaking in the kitchen to use momma’s. Now if you’re single…… Paul Erlendson

I'm a night owl. I waited until my wife was soundly asleep before this all took place, which is why I am still alive.
I did learn that the crock pot is maybe the best way to do it. It heats up slowly and the low setting is just about the ideal temp for the plastic to be workable. Might have to take your advice and buy my own!

Might have to take your advice and buy my own! Look at garage sales or thrift stores. You don’t need a nice one, just a working one. Jordan

You have to think these things through. I'll buy her a nice fancy new one as a present. That way she's happy and I get the old one without having to explain anything!

My wife would see me in there stewing a large hunk of plastic in her crock pot. Then she would promptly roll her eyes right out of their sockets and walk away. Lol. She’s used to my strange ways

Well, I got my very nice set of resin tires and wheels - thank you James! While I was waiting I finished the paint, most of the decals courtesy of Indycals, the usual high quality. The Villeneuve name I already had.
So here she is

It's supposed to be the Monaco car, or Imola I suppose. Protar wants the body shell screwed on, but I made small dowells that fit the holes in the side pods, so it can just unclip for viewing. Much more civilized.
They are the red dots at the front and rear. Now that the picture is taken I can paint them black and they'll disappear.
Overall a pain in the (expletive deleted) kit, but a bit of thought and TLC yields a decent result I think. You'd think I would learn by now, but I just bought 2 more Protars - I enjoy beating my head against the wall!
One more for the road
Take care guys
Paul

No, I didn't lose the decals. I never - almost never - decal the tires. I just don't like the look. If they have raised lettering I might paint them white but even that is rare for me.
Anybody want tire decals? I have dozens of sets, free to a good home.
Thanks again man.

To make matters worse, Italeri are releasing a 1/12th Bugatti Type 35 kit - you know I have to have one of those!!

Oh Yeah!
Looks like I could get in and drive it. Well. Try to.
And whilst I know the setting is not your display area it does pop against the black. Giving me ideas.
Do tell what the two additional Protars are. Sure they will be just as splendid.
Got a mate with a few builders hard hats if that will save on some of the pain!

The Protars are a 312T2 and T3, used kits I believe, haven't got them yet. We shall see...............

No one ever did a 126 CK in 1/12th did they?
Brave man but sure you will get a quality result out of them.

I've passed on a T5 many times - it was a car best forgotten. For the T2 I was looking for the 312T conversion kit but too expensive, we'll see what this Protar looks like. Maybe I'll build a Tamiya 312T chassis and put the Protar bodywork on it, who knows yet.
I think maybe MFH did a CK kit, not sure. Way out of my budget if they did.
Nunu were supposed to be releasing a Lotus 99T in 1/12th, but that was a year ago and no word since that I know of - I'd buy that if it came out.
For the moment I'll build something green.

Just saw this, great job Paul! Those resin tires will never dry out & crack, or dissolve, worth the money IMO! I'm with you on the 1/12 Bugatti, it's a must have. I'm still plugging away on my Tyrrell 003, slow going as my basement is now too cold to paint in. Doing a little more detailing than I usually do on a Tamiya 1/12 kit, so that's slowing me down, too. I agree the 312T5 was a pile of junk, but I may build mine someday, just because Gilles drove it.

If they have raised lettering I might paint them white but even that is rare for me. First, thanks for the kind words, you're welcome! 8-)Again happy they worked well. Ah! OK on the decals! I find it weird. Have you tried putting them and then smoking/shading till theya re barely visible? Yes as you say, MFH made a CK. Though Yes, too, it's quite expensive. I plan to make a transkit that allows to make the late season 1982 car, but guys dont hold your breath. Nice to see these Protars being built. I did mine as long ago as 1994, hehe. Well done, Wolf! J

Just saw this, great job Paul! Those resin tires will never dry out & crack, or dissolve, worth the money IMO! THanks and yes, that's the idea: both relieabilty and well, some deserved accuracy, as Protar's or Heller's ones are more like artistic interpretations.. the original rims also do melt and thats a great problem. Happens the same with IXO excelent (most of them) 1/12 bikes, one day I gotta make resin wheels for them too!! I agree the 312T5 was a pile of junk, but I may build mine someday, just because Gilles drove it. Not sure if you mean the real car or the model... or both! Yes the Protar is a T4 with a T5 body, and not even wheels are accurate, I think. Nevertheless I had the chance of getting one long afo and I much regret I did not. One of those build it decently and put it in the showcase... Another crazy project is a 126C2B or a C3, bith from 1983, but well...

Thanks Gary. Your avatar has whats left of my creative mind at work, by the way. Hey Paul...that's Jeff Locke's ISMA Super Modified. My good friend Norman Sterner sent (a signed pic) to me...Norm also built a 1/8 scale replica of that car and gave it to Jeff. I wanted to build a 25th scale car of that bad boy...maybe someday soon.
