As the Novi is quickly coming to a close I am now planning to spend Sept. finishing up the Colt for it's future release. As I began to try to fit the Engine in I started to notice some issues with the Body. The body work in front of the rear tires sat to low and created fit issues elsewhere. Furthermore, after spending several days wrestling with this, I came to the conclusion I could do much better than my efforts of over twenty years ago and that leads us to how it appears today. The first photo is of the master as it has been for the last 20+ years. The second photo is with the rear body work removed and the jig I made to help align the wing end plates. The third photo shows the jig aiding in mounting the wing evenly, hopefully the next photos will show much more progress.

Progress has been very slow and there has been more than one attempt to fix this area of the car but it is starting to work itself out.

Any progress is good progress on this one! Those tough areas are the details that make all the difference with your kits!

Found another major problem and decided to strip everything behind the cockpit. this kit is likely not going to happen anytime soon. I am super burned out and not enjoying any of this. As a result, I am doing some pretty awful work.

Take some time off Lance. Maybe step back and go build a model.
No reason to burn yourself out... we are all willing to wait, it'll be worth it.

Definitely take care of yourself first, Lance. When you are feeling up to it again, I'm sure "She'll come right" as Denny Hulme used to say.

Lance,
When you push things it just doesn't happen, I find things just get worse. Got to step away and come back to it later. I find good things happen when I do that. It gives you time to think. Hang in there Bud!

Except for the nose and tail, this one is in the trash. Will attempt another body, someday.

After a few days I did pull the turd out of the trash and pieced the tub back together and started a new cockpit cowling. Needless to say it will be sometime before it is ever finished.

After playing with a new project for a few days and ordering some new rubber, I decided to start back on the Colt. Built a new jig today to keep everything as straight as possible. Going to look at the car today at the Speedway Museum helped clear up a few things as well. New project. New jig.

What I said before, any progress is good! This will be a huge seller when you finish it, right up there with Kevin's F-1 Eagle.

So I spent today working with the Colt and the decision has been made to totally start this one over. I originally started this one over 20 years ago and it shows. The more I work with it, the more I uncover things I do not like about it. Starting with a clean slate will free me from my past mistakes with this car and make this much more enjoyable for me and those wanting to build it.

And so it begins, a new Colt from the ground up. Getting ready to start changing the contours of the tub. Making templates to aid in keeping things symmetrical.
