Rear axle A brace replaced. Brittle and with an air hole in one leg. The axle was drilled and a metal rod inserted for strength.

Wired a distributor. This is the visible surface of the exhausts. Will need replacement with thin tubing.

Nice work - I love the '50s era cars & Jag is my co-favorite with Maserati
Look forward to watching your WIP
Have you decided on what to use for the paint?

I found a reference that seemed to indicate that at least some Jag racers had fuel injection, replacing the Weber’s. I’m still trying to verify that. The carburetors that are included have an air box molded in that does not match any photos I’ve found. Also included was a block of 6 injection pipes but no manifold. A manifold was cobbled up in the event that is the direction taken. BTW instructions show an image of carburetors different from the included part?

Dan: Do you use an air brush? Have you tried Gravity Paint Spain? I got a new Passache and sent for specific paints...it was here in 3 days by DHL! Pre-thinned and easy to work with... The reason I bring this up is they have “Ecurie Ecosse Blue.” gravity-colors.com/model-car-paints/116-08-gc-2110/Hope this helps! Tim

Hi Tim, Thanks for the info. For better or worse, rattle-can is my weapon of choice. That color looks right on. Dark blue with metallic highlights. SIGH 😔 If I did airbrush, that would be perfect. I haven’t really started to internet search paint sources, touch up matches, etc, so I don’t know how close I can come. Just getting over a bug ( not COVID) so I’m getting back up to whatever my speed is and see what professor Google reveals, if anything. I hope you’re well and safe, thanks again Dan

Lots of fussy time spent on this. The rear of the lower front wheel wells needed rebuilding.

Figuring out a removable hinge that closed the hood properly was an interesting job. . . And the result Seemed to take a lot more fiddling than I expected, but worth it. Lots of other small fixes and such then some assembly may proceed.

So, I’ve decided to go with fuel injection. There is a photo of the engine of XKD 604 in Ultimate car page showing fuelie and it looks cooler (to me) than carbs. The same Ultimate article has a photo of the 1957 winner XKD 606 with Weber’s so I know I’m exercising a large amount of artistic license. A water manifold was shaped to go from radiator to head.

I’ve been poking along on this and have some progress. The rear axle has been dry fitted into the chassis.

The front wheels are slid onto metal axles. There was no way the brittle resin A-arms would support the vehicle, so a metal rod was used. Painted flat black it should be mostly hidden. And on its wheels! Still looking for paint. . .

This car is fabulous and you are doing a great job. It doesn't seem an easy kit.

This is quite a nice model. It has the “stance”. Turns out the real car had FI. I contacted P24 in France for the proper intake part, they gladly sent them right along. Very nice service. And they’re based in LeMans of all places. Obviously more to be done. I’ll try to update more often. Dan
