I can find no photos of M/T cars at Indy from 62-64 running an offset suspension.

Thanks Lance. I also found this: They must have rebuilt the car with the offset for some reason.

Hi Mark That second photo is very interesting. It raises some other questions as well. Is the car a restoration/redesign of the origonal 34 car or a semi replica. As you said the suspension is entirely designed , it also has a right side fuel tank as well and the exhaust system is redesigned and looks similar to the ones on a Lotus. I found the last picture and the caption says the driver is Bill Cheesbourg in a 1963 test of Gurney's 62 car. Thompson built 3 of the 62 cars, #s 33,34 and 35. The 33 car went to Kimberly and the 34 and 35 appear to stayed with Thompson. I can't find any info about the 33 and 35. If you have a copy the 63 Floyd Clymer Indy year book there are some photos of the 62 cars in 63 page 36 with the Kimberly car now # 63 ,no offset and no right side tank. Page 229 with Al Miller's # 84,the only thing you can b e sure of is that it did not have the exhaust pipes the look like the ones on a lotus. I'm going to give you a Fotki public address for a site on the 63 Thompson's, it also has several other views of the offset car that you are questing. I don't think it will work as a link but you can try,if not just copy it. ( publicfotki.com/thenewcityfamily/model-car-projects-/1963-harvey-aluminu/ ). Good luck. Ralph

The 2 1962 that Thompson retrained after the 1962 Race were rebuilt and change motors from Buicks to Chevys and also some body changes where enter in the 1963 Race one driven by Al Miller #84 this car finished in 9th place the highest any Thompson car in any Indy 500, the twin to this car #85 was driven by Bill Cheesbourg but failed to Qualify. This car has been restored to it's 1963 Version. The Kimberly #63 car driven by Jimmy Davies had been rebuilt by Don Borth between the 1962 & 1963 race with a body that looks a lot like the restore #34 car. None of the 1962 M/T cars had offset suspension.
