The hood side panels are same size. The top engine cover is one piece. I sanded off the kit hinge line.

Great research, I think you are building it right. Love the detail work, keep it up!

Gary’s kit was definitely a representation of the 1923-1924 Miller. They were representing the 1923 winner and the various Durant team cars from those years. That is why you see the difference in the cowl and the grill. The one for 1923-24 cars were 122cu in. cars while the 1926 through 1929 were 91 cu. in. cars. This car can be made into one of the later Millers quite nicely as your build demonstrates. The Etzel kit was the 1926 through 1929 Miller.
John Morana who is selling Gary’s s kits now is not terribly knowledgeable. He saw the Jynx special cars and saw that the miller was pretty accurate and went ahead and got the decals for the 1927 Jynx car even though Gary never intended to create that actual kit with this miller. It certainly is a fine representation of the 1927 car though

I sanded a raised area on the belly pan and tail to produce a smooth curve. Lots of small steps.

I don’t know why Tom got two postings- solar storm maybe? Other ideas?
Anyway I will be working on the area behind drivers shoulders. The kit seat seems incomplete there. Oh boy! It’s Miller time! Glug glug
Whats that? It’s Filler? Oops!

This is looking real good Dan. I have a few of Garys' Millers and watching your build sure helps with improvements for sure.

I’ve built up the seat back a bit using filler and wine bottle metal, of which I seem to have a quantity. I used a wire to represent edge of the coaming around the seat. The wire looks a bit oversized- I may grind it down somewhat. I used an ivory brush paint to blend the various shades to see how the shapes work. Obviously lots of sanding and polishing in my future.

I like the idea of using the WINE foil. This is looking good.

I replaced the wire bead with one smaller and started to shape the seat back. Clearly lots of finer smoothing to be done.

Dan: A very cool build! I also love the old cars, and this one is making me want to build another 1930’s car...the wire on the seat trim is also something I have never thought of...keep it up, my brother! Tim

I’ve been thinking how to make the nose more like the 1928 nose. Here’s one idea. A thin plastic rod for the crest and a thin plate More shaping to be done then we’ll see.

Some Miller’s seem to have a crest on the grille shell, the more I look at this one, the more I’m convinced it doesn’t. The top of the shell is rounded.

I took off the crest I had added and am filling in the bottom to create a more squared off look. I also removed 3 mm. from the back.

More fine tuning on the grille shel. This is a very prominent part of the “look”of this car, so I’m trying to get it as close as possible. Sorry for the fuzzy pix, I must learn to focus. . .

Finally, progress. I thought I might use Tamiya TS 21 gold, but it seemed too bright or something. So I sanded it off and applied Testors 1244 gold. It’s much better, in my opinion. More to come

Thanks for the compliments and likes.
Gary, They are wheels from the kit, two layers of PE set in the rein rims. Sprayed gloss black, then tires brushed in matte black. I found some knockoffs in spares, painted Modelmaster steel.

Wheels and axles attached. All four wheels touch! The intake grill on the cowl and the moto meter on the radiator cap are left overs from the Etzel Miller. I’m really happy with grill shell.
