Started this over a month ago but events kept me from doing very much. I was also putting off the commitment of cutting up the MKII body. So, here is where I am at the present. I cut off the left door and the roof section. I decided to do one door at a time to keep help with structural integrity. Once the door was cut off the body I began the fitting process. I wanted to keep good door lines because I am terrible at scribing new ones. Presently the door is done except it needs to be CA glued. After that glue is set, I will start on the right door. Notice I added some strips that will be behind the door, that was to help with the gluing and to add some surface behind the door crack lines.

Alert All Ford a 1/24 FORD GT and 427 Cobra fans: I was so impressed with the WIX 427 Cobra diecast I had just received (especially the beautiful tires and Halibrand wheels) I was seriously tempted to order another BUT their Holman-Moody GT Mk II is cheaper and the same tires are Firestone lettered, the 427 single carb and trans are superb and wired (same with Cobra), chassis has working springs. There's a dozen of each on eBay right now ranging from $300 to $35.00 OBO. The MK II is especially good for the many GT's you do or even other cars (that 427 MK II engine and trans could do a lot of Lola T-70s). I just ordered the MK II for 32.50 and 10.00 shipping US from Canada be here in a few days. IN FACT I am going to order another MK II right now. Never can have too many Ford GTs or Lotus 29s. Better hit eBay NOW before the word gets out! Tell me what you think.

Both doors are glued in place. I had a lot more trouble with the right door. The left went on fairly easy and lines matched up well. Right door is going to need some work before any painting. Next comes the cowl area. I think that will be easier than the doors but I may be in for a surprise. I'll begin that part NLT tomorrow.

Finally got around to the cowl piece. It was not as easy as I was hoping but just basic fit and fit again until it fit good. All that remains on that area is filling and sanding. I will get some putty on it this evening and sand tomorrow and maybe spray some primer to get an idea of what else is needed. I did add some strips behind this piece to aid gluing and strength. I checked for clearance of the chassis/interior before hand. I have to say, the more I work on this, the more I appreciate the work Calvin had to do to create this conversion. I hope some of you guys planning one of these can gain something from my efforts. Just fit carefully is my main tip so far.

its looking good to me. Its no secret that this conversion is not for a beginner. After trying 4 different designs, this was the best one I could come up with. I just about shot myself trying to figure out this conversion as I showed and talked about in my WIP.

Bill, Getting all those shapes to work together is a challenge. Ask me how I know. You’re meeting the challenge in great style. Ain’t this a fun pastime? Dan

Primer is your friend, it warns you of trouble ahead.
Looks good. This is the least favorite part of the build for most people (filling, fixing and primering) but its actually the most important part. Its the foundation of the paint job.

It's been awhile. Time really flies by! I have little progress. I found that I needed to putty up some of the door lines at the top of the door and I was going to re-scribe a little. The problem was each time I would putty and sand it would crack at that line. I found there was a little looseness to the front edge of the doors that would allow that putty to crack. I knew that would surely be a problem when inserting the chassis, which requires a lot of flexing.
So, I applied a bunch more superglue to the inside of both doors. Let that setup and put on some more putty. When I had the putty sanded I went out to my paint room, a little room built inside my garage, to spray some more primer. My light would not come on. I had to replace the ballast last year and apparently it burned out again. I was out of ballasts and light fixtures. So I had to find a replacement light fixture and swap that out. Bought a 4 foot LED fixture, much brighter, it should last a long time and I have that all fixed now. Getting back on the GT40 roadster and hope to get some forward momentum!

There’s always something isn’t there? At least you didn’t drop the ballast on the roadster. Dan

OK, I finally committed to fitting the windshield, finished the bodywork (I hope) and have the body primed. I also painted some more parts, mainly the special dashboard and the last few items. I will paint the Italian Red in a few days and attempt to glue in the windshield without ruining the whole thing. Should be alright. I also just realized the the paint I grabbed was gloss black and not semi-gloss. Maybe they'll be sprayed again soon.... Meanwhile the French language is coming along smoothly, most around me have a new appreciation also, or new ear plugs
