So I'm starting to plan for my adventures next year for the 500. Does anyone have any reviews on the Holiday Inn Express on 5855 Rockville Road? Trying to get a room for the Saturday before the race to not have to deal with driving an hour from the In-laws house on race day. Any advice and tips are welcome. Where do you guys suggest getting tickets. I want to be on the Pit Road seats. What say you? Thanks!

Have you ever sat in those pit road seats?

I would highly advise against sitting in the pit road seats. The only exception being some of the seats high up on the northern end of pit road, but if you were thinking the ones right behind the pits, forget about it, you won't see a thing.

I say high up in the turns. I LOVE Turn 1! We were in stand E section 22 row Q. We were under cover and could see about 1/3 of the track and had a jumbo tron in front of us for the rest.
What direction are your in-laws. Mine are west of town in Plainfield. We took the bus in from the airport. Best in and out I ever had in 25 Indy 500's. Well worth the $45. They run shuttle buses from 4-5 different areas. Search Indy 500 shuttle bus.

Rows are lettered, sections are numbered. In any case - congratulations! Looking forward to seeing you at Phoenix and Indy!

Plan is all coming together! I will look into a shuttle service so we don't have to worry about parking.

I've sat in many different seats over the years. Turn one is the best, Box 17 Row M, you've covered from the sun and you have a great view.

The Best ever for me is Penthouse Paddock. You see part of the short chute thur turn 4, the entire straight, turn 1 and part if the short chute to turn 2. In the shade for more than half the race, bathroom and concessions near by.

We sat in L stands sec 9 Row V and then NE Vista sec 21 Row V from 1975 to 2005. If I can ask......how did you get your tickets? My cousin and I want to go again with this being the 100th race but when he called IMS they put us on a waiting list. Just wondering...........

I filled out an application for tickets as soon as they made it available. They ask you to choose your 3 spots you want to sit and give you the best available. It started with renewals and upgrades from past ticket holders then applications. After that it'll open up to everybody else.

There have always been tickets available for the past few years, even on race day. However, this being the 100th, there may not be.

Yes, correct, there are always tickets. It's just that we're trying to avoid the no-so-good seats and not pay a scalper (yet). We also filled out the 3 best type application but don't remember when we sent it. Had to be early summer.

Speedway processed our request this week. We'll be in NE Vista Section 25 Row R. That's the highest we could get. OK, can I ask what others here do for accommodations? It's been awhile since going and we used to mostly camp. Too old for camping now. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I don't know which direction you are coming from. We come from the North. My advice is, stay on the NW, or SW side of town, don't stay near the airport(too expensive), race morning, drive to the airport, there is a separate parking lane for the race, take the shuttle to the track. You will have a pretty long walk(go thru the infield). After the race, the shuttle will take you back to the airport, and you will avoid most of the traffic. Others can chime in with their ideas.
