Hi all I am looking for any specifications on this car. All I know is the wheel base was 86 inches. Any information on length, height, width, and etc. Maybe someone know who owns this car now so I can get in touch with them. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Kevin K.

HI All Just a couple of photos showing progress on the Shadow Can Am car. Right now it’s just a basic styrene mock up. I was fortunate enough to obtain the specifications for this car from Don Nichols who is still vibrant at 93 years of age. It was quite an honor to talk to him. BTW if there is a problem with me posting a full body car on this forum, please let me know. I don’t want to wrinkle any fenders. I will keep you updated. Thanks Kevin K.

Wrinkled fenders or not, this is great. I can't wait for this one!! Thanks for keeping us involved in the progress. I'll bet Mr Nichols would be happy to know how many of us still care about his cars.

You can post this any where you want to! Even in this early stage it's stunning. I'm with John, can't wait for it.

I saw Don and the designer at Sears Point last year. George Follmer was with them. Quite a fine 40 minutes of talking was heard by all. Oh, and Kevin, please save me one of these kits...a must have for an ol' CanAm fan!! Patrick

Hi all This is the version of the AVS Shadow that I will be doing as a 1/24th scale resin white metal kit. It is the car driven by George Follmer. I very much like the high wing that houses the radiator and more steam line version of this car than in other configurations. I will keep you posted. Thanks Kevin

Was this car ever raced in all black? I'd forgotten the orange (red) version.

Good looking selection. This was the way the car ran at Mosport, it's first race. It was also the only race with this configuration, but I think the better looking of all the variants.

IRC, this version was banned as there were concerns if an accident were to occur the Radiators would spew allover the driver and others..so the next race the radiators were moved inside the wing thus creating an enclosed radiator per the governing body.. eventually they were moved again to the body as this prove to be ineffective cooling for the monster engine!!

I remember seeing the black version run at Mid-Ohio.
IIRC the air extraction discs on the front wheels are Corvair cooling fans.

Interesting shifter and steering gear on this one....

The shifter is to the right of the steering wheel as in most race cars of this era. The knob and lever to the left of the steering wheel is the CLUTCH. There was no room for another pedal.

Looks like the steering set up that was on my F440 Scorpion, only the Scorpion had a butterfly wheel. At first look, it didn't look like it would work without thinking about it, but I never had a second thought on the track. I must add, though, that being go-kart like, with bottom steering linkage, and a rear engined, the similarities end. (and it was a blast to drive) --Frank

I rented a F440 Scorpion for a race at Mid-Ohio. It was indeed a blast to drive.
