About 12 years ago I was in my F1 model building phase and built a 1/20th scale Emmo Copersugar resin kit. I ended up selling the built model on EBAY to a guy in Brazil. Low and behold about a month later I received an email from the guy that bought the model. In the email was an attachment with a photo of Emmo holding the very model I built with a big smile on his face. The buyer had photoshopped a balloon coming out of Emmo's mouth that said "Great model Stu! Emmo." It was so cool! I wish I still had the photo to post but I had a computer crash a few years later and I lost it. Still great memories however that something I had my hands on, made it into Emmo's hands.

This is similar to Stu's story. It was not a build but a conversion of Will Powers Verizon Indy car that I sold to someone on E-bay and he sent this message back to me. (Just wanted to drop you a note about the Will Power Verizon Indy Car you made. I was able to have Will and Roger Penske sign it today and they were both very impressed with the quality! Thought that was pretty cool and wanted to pass it on! Thanks again and keep making great cars!) I was on cloud 9 after hearing that the Caption had actually seen one of my cars not alone say that he was impressed by it. I am sure this happens to a lot of people on this Forum. There are a lot of talented people on this board. Keep building and converting the work is amazing and I love this hobby.

In 1993, I was at the Long Beach Grand Prix with a pit-pass from Dan Gurney's All-American Racers, and I walked over to the Newman/Haas K-Mart/Texaco pits to take photos of their car because rumors started that a kit was being done of it, a Lola T93 by TAMIYA...and by himself was Mario Andretti. I heard rumors that Mario like built models cars too........So ask him I if the rumors were true? He answered "Yes...Mostly Ferrari's." And suddenly Nigel Mansell walks up, and asked,"What are you two boys talking about?" Mario replied, "Models cars." Nigel was a modeler as well.....He liked British F-1 Championship cars and was having a hard time finding kits...I told about "Tom's Re-Pops and gave him his address with the Newman/Haas team so I sent him the information. Then Paul Newman came up to the three of us.......(Eyes were that BLUE.......) and wanted to know what were we talking about? Mario and Nigel said together, "Models Race Cars." Mr. Newman builds them too, and was looking for an old MPC Rislone Eagle so he could have the car he drove in the film "Winning" I said to him that I would gladly send one to him, and I asked him if I could get his address. He pulled out his business card with name and phone number on the back, I also got an autograph. Suddenly up comes the official track photographer to shoot photos of the two F-1 Champions, An Academy Award Actor and some "schmuck" talking about model cars within about a few feet from a real race car.........

These are too cool. My similar thread story was at the Alfa dedicated Historics at Laguna and I waited in line to get the autograph of Juan Manuel Fangio on one of my Merit 158 Alfas. He picks it up the Alfa, eyeballs it like driving through some esses in Europe, knods to his friend, flips it over ,signs it, and I got a big smile from him. How fun! Mike Quarterman has the model still.

Russ, if you got a Paul Newman autograph, that is VERY rare - officially, he didn't sign autographs.

Two years ago there was a rumor that Dario Franchitti was going to go to the Memorabilia show the day before the 500 - he personally asked organizers to open for the drivers an hour before the public. Knowing he is a huge Jim Clark fan, I brought my 1966 Lotus 38 to display at my table hoping to catch his attention. He didn't show. Fast forward two days to the winners photo shoot. The shoot was winding down and I was wrapping things up, when I turned around and saw my friend Mike Thompson from WIBC having his picture taken with Dario. I talked to Mike and he told me how he and Dario developed a bit of a buddy-relationship as Dario gave him a lot of encouragement when he was having health issues. I mentioned the Lotus 38 I had brought and he said that Dario would love to see it. On a spur of the moment, I went to my car and got it. Dario was still posing for pics when I came back and I was standing off to the side with Mike hoping to get Dario's attention. He finally glanced our way and I held up the 38 and his eyes got real big and he waved me over and posed for some pics with me. Right there on the spot I decided to give it to him - my way of adding to the winner's purse, I guess
